EDIT: Closing the game in the Taskbar and restarting via Steam Library, seems OK now.
I'm not even getting sounds.
Just opens, looks like its active in the task manager and then after a couple of minutes reports an error and having to close. no feedback to indicate what the issue is.
Also:
Anyone having issues should post their system specs
Easiest and best way is to show us what Steam sees.
The steps are as follows (very simple):
Go up top here in Steam and find "Help"
Next choose "System information"
Give it a second or 2 to populate
Then simply copy & paste the info here in this thread, all of it.
Having this information can be valuable and we should assume nothing until we see it
Didn't even beta the update.
only changes made are downloading the new nvidia drivers and steam downloading the update.
Appreciate the advice though and hope it's of help to someone.
But I've also seen some say they had to roll back to the previous driver.
I've seen this before with other games.
thanks again for engaging and offering help.

I built this rig myself for 2 principal reasons: Working in Blender and playing Starfield. All my other games play much better on it, and Blender is so fast it takes my breath away now and then, even in Cycles. So far SF has been excellent graphically on Ultra/High.
1) At one of the manufacturing sites run by robots, I could not engage the computer inside the domed Hab to shut them down. Poor Andreja was outside getting pulped but the E-KEY interaction repeatedly failed. I had to hose the metal men with my Magshear.
2) A few minutes later, about half the audio FX went dead -- no music, no boost-pack sounds, a lot of the ambient (heavily populated biome) were gone. I quit to Main Menu and on restart, all but the music returned. I already miss the music. It's not a great soundtrack but I've become used to it.
This was not a particularly innocuous patch, it seems.
