Anybody up to give an overview of Cargo Links
Built two, seemed to connect the systems. But there's a container on the cargo link that appears to need Helium to be powered. Neither system has helium, although I do have an Outpost at planet that is gathering it. The online guides don't help much. God this is confusing! HELP!

Thanks,

d.

First, carry He3 or whatever it is called on your Starship. Add it to a container. Then make sure you get helium from from somewhere that has it and carry it over to the base that doesn't.

So basically 2 cargo links one one with the planet that has it, and one that doesn't. The one that has it can export to the one that doesn't after you follow my steps above.

Ok, that's making sense. THANKS!!!

Oh, uh, duh-- where do I put the Helium? In a container that I link to the Cargo Link, or in the Cargo Link itself. Thanks again mate- d.

It’s simpler to have a resource hub with a source of He3 and then import all of your other resources to that outpost.

I forgot Krash's colony guide here. Please read it if you need more help.

Good input all. Will google Krash's Colony Guide. Thanks again - d.

If I was home I would post the link, I hate using my phone on the forums :steamfacepalm:

IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN PINNED. Moderators?

First off, there are two types of cargo links, local system and interstellar. Only the interstellar require He-3 since the transport ships have to grav jump to another system. For local system (any planet or moon around the same sun), you do not need nor do you want an interstellar transport pad (though they'll work if supplied with helium).

The way I manage mine, since each pad is limited to exactly one destination, is to daisy chain pads to the final target destination. Each solar system with a resource outpost will have one outpost built near an He-3 deposit for fueling interstellar travel. Next to that pad will be a local system cargo link.

Example:
Planet A has interstellar link, He-3 collector(s) that feed to storage and to the pad's He-3 container, and a local system cargo link that receive cargo from planet B.
Planet B has a Tungsten mine, storage, and two local system cargo links. The outbound link (that will link to 1) receives input from the W storage and is linked from the incoming container on the other link. The second link receives resources from Planet C.
Meanwhile, planet Q has an interstellar link receiving from planet A linking input to a local link that links to planet Z where "Main base" is located with gazillions of containers.

Usually, once i get beyond about 4 links, I have to document the sequence so I know where to link the next inbound resource and where to go if I just need a load of a specific resource. Once you've maxed out, you can make something like 24 outposts and keeping that all clear in my head over weeks of play time, work, school, kids, grandkids, and so on, gets to be too much.

I've forgotten what the final limit is for the number of cargo links per base, but since they take up so much space, I usually don't have more than three in a single location. This list is from a text file on my previous play through, I haven't started documenting the current one but it's spread out enough that I'll have to visit each system to see what's where! All items at the same indent level go to the item above that is indented one less (but linked to the item above at the same indent).

Ok, built a third Cargo Link on the system with the Helium. Linked the Helium. But the panel does not offer me the option to connect it to any other outpost. Do I need to disconnect the other two Cargo Links previously linked to each other (star system to star system) and then re link these two outposts to the powered by helium (third) outpost? Sorry I'm so confused.

Lemiarty, think you may have just answered my question. I think I may have built the local system cargo link in the Helium resourced system and need to delete it and build the inter-system one. I notice I don't have that third blue box on the one I just built (hence, why I think I built a local link). Yech. Confusing. But thanks again everybody!

Lemiarty - wow, that was comprehensive. THANKS for taking the time.

1) the other interstellar link should have something in the outgoing box.
2) if you still don’t see the link at the console, maybe the other side is a local link instead of interstellar? I’ve made that mistake.
