When you install sfse you drop the files in the games main folder then start the game with the normal launcher one time so sfse knows what to hook into . You will see the sfse version in the bottom left corner of the main menu, you can then start the game with sfse.exe .
Could be bottom right, can’t remember
Beyond that and going forward, those using SFSE whenever the game updates will have to wait for the SFSE team to update the mod, usually happens quickly though.
So what we do is go into our update preferences through Steam and choose:
"Only update this game when I launch it"
So since you are launching thru SFSE and not Steam the game will not update until you are ready.
Though what Vlad posted about avoiding updates is true, it should be be noted that the major reason people avoided updates in Skyrim Special Edition or Fallout 4 was because the updates were due to new Creation Club content being made available, and NOT because the game itself was being updated to fix in-game issues. As such, it is NOT recommended that people avoid the current updates/patches that Bethesda officially releases for Starfield, as they are for the purpose of fixing issues in the game. Skipping these official updates/patches will result in a person having a non-supported game, for which, should an issue be encountered that was fixed in an official patch, it will not be possible to help - other than to say, "update your game to the latest current version."
Also, though many of us like to mod our games, and wish to mod Starfield, at this point modding is NOT supported, and it will not be until the release of the Creation Kit, as the means of creating mods properly, or creating the tools used for modding, simply is not possible without the CK. All tools being released now (or mods made using them) are based upon suppositions, hacks, and workarounds. As of now, anyone modding the game should enjoy doing so, but they should also consider their playthrough as being disposable.
Windows maintains 2x types of Programs:
- 32-bit: Program Files(x86)
- - 64-bit: Program Files
It's weird; my Steam is installed under the 32-bit folder. As I stated my info was for going forward which means once the dust has settled.
As I have stated many times in these forums I am not modding my game until the tools are released. Not modding as in no plugins, no SFSE, no text enabler. I use some dds (texture mods) and that's it. And I am not using a mod manager UNTIL the official tools come out.
My game is set to "High priority Updates" but I'm not using SFSE. The game is new and i want updates. I also took the Beta which is "opt-in" only.
I'm not going to add that disclaimer to every post i make. People are grownups and I answer the question as related to the thread I'm answering.
I'll add to that by saying this is not a good time to start learning modding although if you do so then do understanding that mistakes will be made, games will be broken so saves are disposable. Heck it's not a good time for the casual modder to mod Starfield.
I'll also state the obvious - I'm giving my stance - It's your game to do with as you please.
Also my information was spot on as related to THIS thread. IF you want to use the SFSE you need to either avoid updates or wait for the mod author of SFSE to update it. Nothing incorrect in my first reply as related to this thread.
Of course i do not recommend using SFSE until the offiical tools come out.
But again it's your game to do with what you want.
EDITED for clarity
The first half of my games is on the "C"-SSD. The second half on the "D"-SSD.
I didn't use DLSS-Mods or Beta Patch.
I have tried/tested a few DLSS-Mods on the past.
Ok, we will be waiting for the official updates. xD
I play with around 60 Mods.
Until then.... I can play the game.... only the mods that depends on SFSE are inactive (or not fully functional). All other mods are working.
