modding question
So setting up Vortex mod manger for mods in this game tonight. I wanted to download the mod where you can summon your ship with a remote. So question since that mode needs Starfield Script Extender (SFSE) which say open the game now using sfse_loader.exe yet I thought when opening the game after modding with the manager I had to use Vortex to do that. Which one is correct to open the modded Starfeild with?

Also if I already had a mod I downloaded manually where that effect anything now that I will be using Vortex?

I've heard Vortex is not playing well with Starfield

no dont say that. So maybe I shouldn't use it? Just thought it would be easier than trying to download each one themselves since each week seems like I want more and more of them installed.

I installed things manually, but I think most people are using NMM

  1. When you use Vortex to install; you have to use Vortex to launch it. This it will run the launcher with the correct options.
  2. Alternatively, there is a mod(only instructions really), on how to change the Steam-settings to Launch SFSE_LOADER.EXE correctly.

TL;DR: NMM (nexus mod manager) doesn't support Starfield. Use Vortex or "Mod Organizer 2"

"It's no longer supported by Nexus since they've gone over to Vortex but NMM is still being maintained by the community on GitHub. Just Google NMM and you'll find it."

so now keep saying I got a older version of Vortex and need a new extension made by a community developer but when I try to install the new one delete the game with the mods with it. What am I doing wrong.

As others have said, do not use Vortex to mod Starfield. The program isn't playing well with it. When I tried it no mods would load up.

Instead as LeftIsBest-James said, unmanage Starfield from Vortex and instead use Mod Organizer 2 (MO2). Nexus has a page for it if you google it, and there should be a link to their Discord where you can download the latest version. That program handles installs perfectly at the moment and plays well with some other third party tools. You can also set up your Nexus account through MO2 so that downloading through a mod manager on the website goes directly to it instead of Vortex.

To run Starfield with mods that need SFSE (I'm assuming you still have it properly installed), you will need to use their loader from now on if you want them to work. You can change the target for the desktop icon to load SFSE instead OR in MO2 there's an option to run SFSE directly from there. Either way in order to use the mod you want, SFSE must be running.

so is there a way to uninstall all the mods I did with Vortex tonight without trying to find the files myself in file explorer on my own?

Pretty sure each mod has a trash can icon on it. I believe it deletes everything if you select remove.

I had better success with MO2
https://github.com/ModOrganizer2/modorganizer/releases/tag/v2.5.0rc1

MO2 also doesn't store mods in the game directory which IMO is better. Keeps the install clean. I would recommend storing your mods on the same drive as the install. It's not needed but I think its better and a lot of video tutorials do the same. If you need help setting it up there is a lot of tutorials on youtube.
