(SOLVED) 100+ hours of saves disappeared...

I was just booting up the game and i noticed that 100+ hours and 50 levels are gone. Has anybody else had this issue and or know how to get the save files back?

I assume the files are saved locally, meaning non recoverable. Sorry man, this happened to me once with Skyrim which is why I didn't beat it for several years. It really sucks.

This also happened to me a few months ago with Farcry 2, first time in ever i'm actually getting through the game and it crashed during save, not just corrupting file but removing it completely. I didn't give up though, i went through, played it through to end again and beat it. It actually happened a second time with that playthrough but i was double saving where i would rotate most recent two saves so i was able to revert to the other one when it happened, only losing minutes that time.

Please check if you have one drive active. There is a known issue where one drive moves saves to its storage folder.

Did you start using console commands? If so, a new file was started and you have to select it separately from the saves in-game.

Console or cloud? I've never seen this happen locally on PC. It sucks to be sure, which is why I do not trust Steam with my saves. Don't trust Microsoft either. Store your saves locally on your own system.

The Steam Cloud? I imagine you checked this. In switching computers I lost half a game worth of the Witcher 3; never bothered to start that 2nd play through again. Weirdly, ALL the Modern Warfare games lose ALL my saves irrevocably at some point in the single player campaign. I'm not much on multiplayer, so I will never buy a version of that title again.

I didn't start using console commands. I did use steam cloud and have now learned the hard way. This really sucks and I hope they manage to fix this issue one day.

that sucks... do nightly backups is all I can suggest to prevent it happening again. Macrium Reflect works well.

UPDATE. After further digging I found the lost files in the fu*@#(g OneDrive trashcan, how it ended up there is a mystery but I found them. Thank you all for being so helpful and kind to respond.
