The plot twist....
...that wasn't.
Neava and DelGado call me Rook. annoying but what ever. At one point in the conversations DelGado says he has a mole in Mast. During a convo, Toft calls me Rook...I'm like wait a sec, how does she know that?!. Spent the rest of the quest waiting for her double cross....that never came.

There are dialogue options with Toft which give you more than a clue.

It's "Rhook". Similar to Denis's "Frendo". It is used, mainly by those of criminal persuasion, to refer to someone who is likable, and useful. The Khajiit of Nirn also use this term.

Val vijah va rhook, Bandari.

Toft isn't in MAST though, since she's part of Sysdef and permanently on the Vigilance.... The same ship that's so far from MAST that she'd be a totally useless mole.

She's ex crimson fleet, so it's not unusual for her to use pirate lingo. Same goes for this black Russian (lol) dude on the eye.

I’m thinking it’s short for rookie, but who knows.

Oh yeah.... Toft... The ca 30 year old, that somehow managed to be a criminal and become a leading member in SysDef in a universe where you need to do 10 years minimum to qualify for citizenship.

Another one of those immersion breaking dumb stories that Starfield is full of.

So they tell you why they call you Rook, the real mole was the cargo ship captain I think.
It's the same with Deputy and Dusty... And all this time the game was supposed be using pronouns...LOL... :steammocking:

There are a lot of "past games" references in SF. I thinks it's funny when I hear or see them.

But the reason these names are used: IMO is that there was no way to voice act alternatives into the game. Not even pronouns.

Some of us shining stars of the UC are Fast tracked and get our rewards years earlier. Heck, It wasn't even a year for me.

Rook wasn't the clue they thought it was.

True... As the player you can indeed fast track citizenship which you know... Makes sense since you're the player.

What doesn't make sense is, that a former criminal, that spent time in prison, is the second in command of SysDef, in this universe of fascists.

And this a common trait from Constellation to UC to Freestar. Every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ character has some kind of "grey" history where they did something bad, but not really bad, but still bad you know.

Whether it is the Freestar ranger that was also a former criminal or Sarah who thinks she abandoned her squad. Just terrible terrible bland writing that an AI would do better.

If you hand in enough evidence then Toft tells you her backstory of how she used to be part of the Crimson Fleet.

Toft is not the mole in MAST. I think the names are mentioned in the evidence if you collected it. Collecting all the evidence also kinda shows you how corrupt the UC really is.
