(Warning) using xEdit Mods for Starfield
this a warning to new users who are just getting into modding for the first time with Starfield to be careful when using mods made with xEdit as they can damage or destroy your save file

this has happened plenty of times before in the past even different tools

the worse cases being fallout 4 in my experience.
I've been playing bethesda games since elder scrolls 4 oblivion I've seen my fare share of mods that can kill a game save or worse.

but Fallout 4 you ask.

as it is right now the same thing happened with fallout 4, they reverse engineered the games plugins and released an experimental tool so it should be fine right? no

xEdit is a vary powerful tool, but it's never 100% especially when it's released before the official creation kit, as what happened with fallout 4.

when the creation kit released for fallout 4 in 2016 an update had to be made for xEdit
but it wasn't a ordinary update, it was pure destruction.
so mush so that it killed saves if you mixed older plugins made in older versions of xEdit and mix them with the newer plugins made by the creation kit.

all i'm saying is, backup you're saves files before you start using xEdit plugins on Starfield or at lest wait a few months after the Starfield creation kit is released in 2024.

Yup, xEdit carries significant risks for the casual user.
Which is why I'm waiting for CK.

The current mods are simpler - but safer.

well at the moment most of them are just loose files and .dll with SFSE (starfield script extender) the plugins are what can cause the most damage if something is off.

i might try a few here or there for curiosity but i'm mostly just going to wait for the tool kit on a full run and keep backup saves.

Modifying a game in any way has always been risky, blaming mod makers when your cludged together Thicc assed 5 reactors on your ship dumbass save craps out makes you a basic mouthbreather, with no-one to blame but yourself,
Want better mods that dont fight with each other? learn to mod. at the very least, learn to merge mods. instead of restating the absolutely obvious "i broke my save by being an idiot" try to get a handle on what is volatile and what is not. People who mod and then regret it are the reason why a bag of peanuts has "may contain nuts" on it. not to mention the reason mod makers have all had to put the same warning on their mods everywhere; "warning: playing a game with altered files may have unexpected results" orilly? say it aint so.
Third edit: you guys should probably stick to vanilla games anyway if you need to be warned about basic stuff like water is regularly quite moist, meanwhile I'll be over here with my Andreja who's thigh's watermelons live in abject fear of meeting, flying about in a massive ship that prolapses anything it comes across. wearing the sickest drip. while you wonder why your waifu sarah hates you for existing.

You only use MO2 (Mod Organizer 2) for mods. Nothing else.

PS: Define "safe"

no, you hand place everything, manually and manually use plugins.txt like a person who has hair in places other than their head.
