Did Todd Howard realize that the game is bad?
I think he realized it in 2021 or 2022. But there was no way out. Thus, he created Starfield Direct to show us that he is not the only one who's responsible for this disaster. Am I right?

Nope.

That's not how Todd Coward does things.

You need to understand one thing about him: he's a liar and a shill.

He will OPENLY lie about his games shortcomings, despite when people throw them in his face, but then, years later, they release a new game and he goes on the same mouth diarrhea tirade. You know, the "we learned from our mistakes and made this new, better, perfect game." And then he sells the morons another underwhelming, vanilla, poorly-optimized sandbox game knowing that the modders will fix their shoddy work.

I bet Todd doesn't think in the terms of good or bad the way gamers do. He likely thinks in the terms of profits. More profits = better game.

Hubris. But hey it worked for him, people bought the hype again and they made a ton of money.

That said I do not completely think it is a bad game, it is not great, it for sure is one step forward and two steps back from FO4 which it's release made me wait and play SF on GamePass first. Now FO4 is one of my top favorite open worlds. We will see if SF can get to that level by end of 2024 with DLCs. Either way I will be waiting for a sale before adding it to my Steam library. That saved money will be added to my modder donation funds.

I know this is a troll post, but in some ways the answer is yes, the starfield team realised their vision for the game a year or so ago, was flawed and not as fun as they hoped.

They heavily tuned down the 'realism' decisions. Things like the need to build outposts so you can refuel? Toned down to almost nothing. Needing multiple suits for different environments? Gone. The survival type elements were tuned down to make it more fun.

I think they made the right choice.
they knew it was a complete stinker, thats why they are giving it away on gamepass.

The Re-Todd is a fraud he's never made anything just took things made by others and sold them to us with more lies than your local sleazy car dealer. This is the first time everything ran through him although he was the main driving force behind failout 76 and it was him that decided to take it multiplayer according to interviews from other high level bethesda dev's so failout 76 and starfailed are products of Todd when he's left to his own devices and well he's good at selling lies but should seriously be kept away from anything to do with making the games as he's clearly incompetent.

No, you are not right. Starfield is easily Bethesda's best game since Skyrim.

That's not saying a lot, or is it?

"I know this is a troll post" . . . Why is this a troll post?

People have been calling out Todd "$hitbird" Howard (Beth employees call him this) for years. He is an unfirable person and he coasts on past glories. I have no doubt that "$hitbird" probably believes that he is a design genius.

He obviously values his little click there at Bethesda more than quality of game design. While the art department continues to impress the writing and production team continues to regress. Every game gets worse as far as the overall story goes.

Fallout 3 - Kid looks for Dad
Fallout 4 -Dad looks for kid
Skyrim - You are the chosen one the Dragonborne
Starfield - You are the chosen one the Starborne
Fallout 5 - Mom Looks for son but surprise...they both are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Really? I heard more clever premises in high school creative writing classes. The guy that writes this crap actually said the story doesn't matter because gamers are stupid. I would have fired that lazy SoB years ago. The only reason that that clown still has a job is the $hitbird.

Bethesda has a former congressman and a former baseball player on their board of directors. Both professions are well known for literary creativity, right? I mean how much imagination does it take to find a better writer?

Hire a good writer with a proven track record
Hold a national contest with a 20k cash prize
Lift something from history and adapt it

A game is just an interactive CGI puppet show. You build and rig the puppets and then they act out the script. It isn't that complicated from the literary end. The player is the puppet with the most freedom of course but that is limited by the imagination of the writing team. You cant do everything that you can imagine....only what they can imagine.

$hitbird and friends ran out of ideas long ago and that's why Bethesda puts most of their energy and money into purchasing others peoples ideas. $hitbird actually said Bethesda isnt a vending machine that dispenses Elder Scrolls and Fallout games. They are artists.

I would have fired him right then.

No. $hitbird you are NOT an artist. You are a piss poor excuse for a manager. A manager that $hits on the businesses customers and insults them. Bethesda games make money and their best products are Fallout and Elder Scrolls games.

$hitbird has far outworn his usefulness and it may take a while but eventually he will be done. Someone who is hungry to prove their worth will outshine him and he will be remembered as the guy that alienated their customers.

Starfield could have been a masterpiece. All of the elements are present. There is a huge dirfference between a decent game and a masterpiece. $hitbird will never preside over a masterpiece again because he is the weak link.

Starfield launched with a decent idea and concept in mind

Unfortunately it didn't go as smooth as glass as the liar stated made a complete EA statement on that part.

The game is rough, The budget was cut down and corners were cut
There are a lot of post with different opinions and all as to who what when why.

This game to me is just an example of what happens when a game company doesn't care about anything and just figures it is "OK"to take advantage of how gaming differs now from then.

In the gaming industry its a team effort if one fails the entire team fails.
So blaming one person for everything is pretty stupid, Sure you could make a mistake into placing trust into someone but all the blame still falls onto the entire game company.

They still launched the game without testing it. This was always a critical point for game companies back when gaming started.

Now a days game companies don't care cause they figure its cheaper labor to have a poor community like steam etc to tell us what is wrong this way we don't need to spend another 200 dollars for labor. Thing with this is.. it back fires Steam is the worse place to ever ask for feed back.

You guys know how many games failed cause of stupid people not providing actual fed back and all?

I am just pointing this out. cause I can say over 200+ games were abandoned cause steam doesn't always have a good community that wont just blow smoke up someones rear
and all
Xhaiden Nov 5, 2023 @ 12:13pm
I'm sure the entire team was aware but there's just too much forward inertia to change track by the time they realised.

The game could have benefited immensely from one more year in the oven.

Surely.
Mooman Nov 5, 2023 @ 12:18pm
In a way, yes they saw issues in 2021. Looking at what happen in that 2 year time frame.

The merger with Microsoft brought in money to allow BGS to 'let go' many of their older more experience and importantly, better paid devs. At that time there are a lot of resignations/retirements/firings. You'll have to cross reference FO76 resignations with Starfield credits to see the extent of this.

The loss of that experience caused BGS to take another year for "polish". This obviously didn't work.

Then there was the constant media campaign from Xbox. With articles about how it'll be the least buggy BGS game to being one of the most important RPGs of all time. They needed that pre-order money and Game Pass subscriptions.

But it all backfired and now Xbox has reorganised their leadership to reign in ZeniMax and make preparations for ABK. A bad Elder Scrolls release saw BGS bought out by ZeniMax. A bad Fallout release saw them bought out by Microsoft. A bad Starfield relese?
