how do I activate my starborn Power?

I collected my first power. I'm back at the Lodge. I need to demonstrate my power to continue the quest. I have the power selected. (It's showing above my head on the circle for access to powers, starmap, inventory, etc.) I even have the power on my quickbar. When I select it, though, nothing happens.

I quit the game, reopened, reloaded the game, but still nothing happens. I'm on pc with keyboard/mouse. I've tried using the keyboard shortcut to activate it. I've tried opening the quickbar and clicking on the power. Nothing happens.

I can't continue this main quest, and I'm getting frustrated. :(

Try rebinding your shout key.

I have to double-press mine to fire whatever power.

Thank you. That was it. With only 1 power, the quickbar didn't really indicate to me that I was only selecting the power rather than actually activating it (like the medpack). Now to go decide how I want to rebind these keys.
