Has anyone noticed if all planets rotate in the same direction and on the same axis?
I've basically just started getting into actual planetary exploration as of a few days ago.

I'm wondering, if I want to maximize how much daylight I'll have available once I land, does landing near the eastern edge of the dark side of a planet consistently work for achieving that?

Keep in mind if you wait on your ship in orbit, it's going off of UT time, so it may take a longer or shorter time to rotate the planet. For example, I hat to wait on my ship for a total of around 60 hours once to get the place I wanted to land into morning.

you could nap in your ship until its morning ? lot less complicated

but it don't work on earth because the planet don't spin i think

Thank you @Jerrypocalypse. What you describe is pretty much the approach I have been doing, I just wasn't sure how consistent it was for the actual movement of the "sun" once out and about on the planets.

"Has anyone noticed if all planets rotate in the same direction and on the same axis?"

fun fact
thats actually realistic, most solar systems start out with planets all in a plane and spinning the same direction
our solar system has 2 exceptions where the axis and/or rotation is out of kilter - scientists believe thats a result of collisions

That's actually why I asked in the first place, @EzRyder. I seemed to recall that was the case. The question just was whether or not the game implemented that concept, and if they made the rotation the same in all of the different solar systems.

You get a steam "Hot Take" award for an interesting sidebar contribution to the thread. :steamhappy:

No problem. Also something interesting I noticed that you may have as well - when resting on the ship in orbit, the planet does physically orbit the system's sun (and moons orbit the planets). So the planet/moon will move around in your ship's view after waiting. Just kind of some cool detail they didn't necessarily need to add.

Yah, I've noticed that. And as a long-time player of No Man's Sky, I also appreciate it. I love NMS, but it bugs the bajeesus out of me that orbits and planetary rotation are not even simulated a little bit.

I know NMS had that before release and they removed it because it "confused players" when things weren't in the same spot all the time, but I guess I'm not "most players". In Starfield, that's a non-issue, seeing as you don't manually fly "to" other planets anyway.

I've not noticed any 'reverse' spinners myself yet. Mods for that or Exo/Rogue/Asteroid/Comet planets may come eventually though. I hope they add back in the original travel/extreme environments mechanics back in as well; with survival mode or mods. :P

Totally agree.

Me three! I really want more.of the survival/harsh space travel elements
