Newbie question : the Old Neighborhood

Just started the game and I am at "the Old Neighborhood" quest at the point near Venus where I m supposed to examine a satellite.
I am smack in the middle of the said satellite and nothing happens. If I press "E" I simplyleave my pilot seat.... Am I missing something ?

I play using a ps4 controller because im an old fart, i believe its one button to select the target and another button to activate it

for me it is X to select target and square to activate it, I did play through with M&K but Ive forgotten which buttons do what, e to change target and maybe F to activate? Either way, select the satalite so it's highlighted and then press other buttons

tap "E" to activate whatever you are looking at, holding it exit's pilot seat
