Crates & Storage & Stuff Like That :)
I figured out Boxes are just for looks; The just have no room in them. However... Storage Crates are great; but I'm wondering if they hold different amounts.

When Placing Storage Crates You get: Storage Crates, Industrial Crates, Military Crates, Science Crates and Contraband Cache: Do these all hold the same amount; or are they based on Size? As I noticed the Physical size of the Storage Crates are huge, especially compared to the Science Crates.

I mostly ask because I (and My Ship, Crew and Base (LoL)) are all max'd out on space... so I can't really even test this myself; without using up Resources to build Crates I may not even need.

Advanced Thanx!!!

I haven't built any of the home decor crates. But, there's a warehouse crate that has decent storage. I've dumped extra minerals in the outpost hab just to see how long it stays there. After a week its all still there.

Btw, how much can your ship cargo hold?

I'm mostly looking to store non-minerals... I've got a ton guns, SpaceSuits, etc. I haven't had a chance to Sell Off yet.

My current ship hold is like 442/200; because I just got this ship, and really like it; but haven't gone in to upgrade it yet; it over flowed because the Frontier was close to full (442/450) when I took over my current ship.

I'm 'Slowly' working towards setting up a Distribution Center in which I plan to have a Massive WareHouse for Storage (Both Resources and Junk). Unfortunately... I made a lot of bad decisions during my Learn as You Go Time :)... so now I have a Ton of Stuff which I need to Sell... Off Load... Use... Etc.; but I need more resources (Different Resource than I have) in order to put together something that will allow me to properly Store and Use the Resources I do have.

It's a Real Cluster Muck over here :).

I don't know your char level, but consider at some point stealing a NPC ship out in the wild. Its not hard to find a class A ship with several thousand in cargo space. No modifications required.

Industrial crates can be linked from the transfer container and to each other, and they will auto-fill form the transfer container, like the resource containers do. Unfortunately, they do not provide access to their contents when building/crafting.

Solid storage needs: Aluminum, Iron, Adaptable Frames (made from Aluminum & Iron)
Warehouse needs: Aluminum, Titanium, Adaptive Frames
Liquid Storage needs: Aluminum, Nickel, Adaptive Frames
Gas Storage needs: Copper, Tungsten, Adaptive Frames

My advice would be to find a location that supplies both Iron and Aluminum so you can make tons of adaptable frames, then buy as much Titanium as you can to make the warehouse storage you need, and enough Nickel, Copper and Tungsten to build storage for other resources you find.

I haven't tried, but do the warehouse crates hold weapons, suits, etc?
Happy Monkey Oct 31, 2023 @ 3:19pm
No, but the industrial crates do (second variant of the big boxes)

No, but I did not know that answer to that question until just now. I keep my weapons on my ship and have become picky about what I pick up. I guess storage crates are the best you can do for weapon storage.

Role Playing a ship with a 450 cargo should be considered Iron Man mode haha

The Funiture crates hold very little in my opinion and I think a max of 200kg for the big ones.

Example. For my suit, helmet and backpack storage (a crate or two for each), i would have preferred to use them to store legendary and rare items that i cannot craft but do not want to sell. Then they should have allowed us to hunt for the blueprints of the basic version so that I do not have to check if a i have a set of these in the event i just want my character to look different.

Oh, there is no definitive food storage that links to the cooker in your base making you have to either use the cooler which also has small storage to store things and only retrieve them when you craft. However having seen the buffs from food, it is not worth it.

I suggest just keep the rares and legendary and 1 complete set of the normal ones to mod yourself. Apart from loosing the resources you can change the mods easily on that one set. As for junk you collect to later use to decorate your base, be selective. 2 or 3 crates of those should be enough.

The lack of a food/aid item storage equivalent to warehouse storage is irksome.

I usually use the Contraband Crates in my Stretch Apartment. They stack up to 3 and hold the most (though still not their stated max).

I don't mind having limitations and Bounderies. I mind those Bounderies being not where they are said to be.

They totally screwed up with Storage.

Several of the crates store the same amount even though they physically look different. You cannot access their contents while using any craft benches though. You can however put anything and everything you need on your person to do the crafting, then put the rest back when you are done.

I am more interested to know about raider access. I just discovered that while I am away, raiders can damage machines and empty out all your outdoor containers. I do not know however if they can access any of these crates you would build indoors, or even ones you build outdoors (the decoration ones). I would not want to just leave all kinds of expensive stuff in them if I knew they can be raided too, but I will try with just manufactured goods and hope for the best. Hopefully the two turrets I placed outside will hold them off as I don't have but a small Aluminum production going.

You do realise this topic is a year old one and posted several days after game release? There were changes made since.

Regarding to your question, game don't have raider mechanic at least your outposts are safe.
Thinking about, all my outposts are pretty far away from settled space and mostly on lifeless moons. No raiders for the last 300 hours of gameplay.
