Starfield vs Bethesda

Has starfield been unfairly compared to previous Bethesda games?

Bethesda wanted something different. Maybe it caters to a different group of players than other Bethesda games?

According to that Bruce Nesmith interview Starfield was to be the third leg of Bethesda's RPG trilogy.

They had apocalypse sci fi in Fallout, high fantasy in Elder Scrolls and Starfield would fill the space sci fi.

BGS obviously took a Venn diagram approach in taking elements of FO and ES and smashing them together.

So instead of being it's own thing it had to fit that overlap. That's why you have gunplay combined with dragon shouts.

Therein lies the problem, trying to combine two very different franchises. Sure, there is some overlap in FO and ES already. Not, much but it's there (mostly hostile reskins).

FO fans aren't necessarily ES fans and trying to shove all of that audience into one franchise...

This is a Bethesda game in the full tradition of Bethesda games. It's all there. Okay, maybe not Arena. But it's clearly from the same company as Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion. Fallout 3, Skyrim, and Fallout 4.

On the other hand, so many sci-fi games also have silly space magic. I did not want space magic, but there is definitely a LONG history of it in sci-fi. Mass Effect, for example. Hell, even all the Star Wars games. Go all the way back to Known Space and you have silly psionics, telekinesis, and magical super-luck. Dune's magical prescience, for another example.

So I can't bring myself to rag on a game that is merely doing what most other sci-fi games, movies, and literature already do.

As a new IP, it aint a bad first attempt. But it sorely needs some real work done to bring up to par. Its handicapped by performance issues and major bugs and some bad design decisions.

I beg you, its not really new, this is just another skin for something they did countless times befor. The only difference is, that they put less effort into this one :-/

There is a reason why the review goes further and further down the hill. The prople slowly realize the truth. For some it takes a while until they can be honest to themselves ;-)

For others this will never happen, because they can't bear the thought that they spent 70 on a bad game and they will never openly admit it :-(

This game is a fallout 4 mod are you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ new? literally the same garbage bugs and map with updated physics. like the only people who did their jobs was the physics team nobody ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about the physics even when they break its too funny to get pissed about.
