Kind of underwhelmed by the Freestar Collective Questline
Hi all, I mean the Ron Hope twist at the end was kind of interesting, but the Marshal and Rangers didn't really seem to give a darn that Ron Hope is dead.
There was one generic throwaway line read with about as much emotion as reading the back of a cereal box.

Also the rewards sucked.

If you don't kill him and keep everything a secret SSNN will still report the news. Kind of unimmersive ... :)

Wait until you try all the other quest lines. Gonna be the same feeling all the way through, my guy.

Yea, just finished it yesterday and must say, a bit underwhelming here and there.
You can tell a lot more effort and time went into the UC. You get the ship which isnt that bad tbh, but overall, the UC rewards are better and the UC Quest much more engaging with that starship trooper theme going :P

After finishing the uc quest line every companion nags about your choice not to saturate all settled systems with a random bioweapon. While the quest is somewhat good this really sucks. Hey trust in science, what can go wrong dude?

I joined that questline cause I wanted to arrest people. I was disappointed that non of that happened. Especially Ron Hope. I wanted to arrest him and make an example of him.

Yup . clearly the weakest of the 4.
I'm a Riujin fan.

I just realized that you can capture people with certain gun types. However, i missed to try it on ron hope. Did you try it that way?

I only tried through persuasion but he always escalated the situation. I haven't tried EM weapons. Next replay I will try that.

The Marshal actually gives a damn, and if you pay attention to what random NPC in Hopetown say you would notice that, just like in RL, there are rumors about “Ron Hope having a heart attack or something” and other similar stuff floating around and some folks are worried about the future. Also, it makes sense to downplay the scandal, that’s exactly how the authorities would act. Nothing to see here, folks. Move along. Mostly peaceful protests. Look, squirrel!

The rest of the Galaxy does not give a damn about pretty much anything happening on the random planets. And why would they? It does not affect their lives in any way.

The rewards sucked? Really?

I've tried it on every major NPC. No matter how you go about it 90% of the time to finish quests you have to kill them when they are knocked out. And the times you can get away with knocking them out, after mission turn in all dialogue and future references will be how you killed them..

I turned on the Crimson my first play through and knocked out everyone. Yet, everyone "died" when I finished the quest line. Uh, no they are all alive! You have jail cells on the Vigilance why the fudge....I digress..

I have to disagree about the rewards. The ship you get it pretty neat. I didn't like how there were very few options to end things peacefully. I would have liked to arrest Hope and the leader of the first but there wasn't an opportunity to do that. I couldn't even get the grunt leader who was bullying the farmer lady to surrender.

The questline itself is fairly bland, but the "First to fight, first to die" sub quest is one of my favorite fights in the game.

I used an EM on Ron Hope and had him down but alive and killed his security detail. Unfortunately, the quest still says to "Kill Ron Hope". So, no option to stun him and bring him to justice. There's really no point in EM weapons or even melee fighting to subdue an opponent. Not in major quest stories anyway.

The Eagle is a great ship with some upgrades.

The questline is 9 missions....and then you are a ranger with no more work...quite lame.

It's the only faction questline I haven't tried yet; the disappointment of Akila 'city' is actually what put me off. Maybe they put the majority of their efforts into UC Vanguard; undoubtedly one of the strongest faction questlines Bethesda has ever created.

You get a pretty good ship - however, for the UC quest you get a full set for a legendary space suit, which is prolly one of the best the game has to offer. And along the UC line you'd find plenty more items.
But prolly natural as the Freestar quest is more tied to detective work, while UC gets pretty quick to combat missions where you can loot the hell out of it.

lets look at this in perspective...
->clear out one slightly bigger than most but not all random buildings to get 1 ship and a full set of legendary armor + a good number of random weapons of blue or better quality, for about 30 min spent. (Mantis). Is the mantis just too nice or does everything else have really bad rewards?!

-> UC home and ship module unlocks are pretty solid for equal amount of work as rangers. But its more fun for me, rangers has too much run around for little things and not enough meaty fights and challenges.

the revolver is the best of the rangers rewards and its up front, get that and let them stew. The ranger ship is 'nice' but its A class, and there fore meh by the time you get it usually.

But them not caring... the marshal is worried about the impact to the council (brief dialog bits) but the man was dirty, and it can be proven, ... can't have the council be above the law, either. Or you can be dirty too, and just take the money, though its a pittance.
