Screenshot location
I did the googling, and I understand they're *supposed* to be in C:\users\<yourusername>\Documents\My Games\Starfield\Data\Textures\Photos

I, however, have a somewhat unique config, in that I put my Documents/Downloads/Pictures/Desktop folders on a separate drive. Looking at my D:\Documents\My Games\Starfield\Data\Textures\Photos, there's the default "dead guy on the floor" image, but that's it.

Does anyone know the file name format Bethesda used here? I'm assuming they're .png files, but if I can figure out what the format is I should be able to find where the game is storing "photo mode" pictures. I know they're in there someplace... the game displays them on load screens for me.

Check your C drive for those same folders - the game will default things to that location, even if you changed things.

Good luck!

I did; there nothing in the root of C and there's no Documents directory under my username.

Look for a onedrive folder too, some people have the game linked to Onedrive by default: C:\Users\YourName\OneDrive\Documents\My Games\Starfield

As for the file naming convention, shots you take are named "Photo_YYYY-MM-DD-xyzabc.png", Where YYYY is a 4 digit year, MM is the month, DD is the day and xyzabc is a numerical value that I have no idea what it means.

All of that is assuming you are taking the shots with photomode, and using the in-game photo key. If you're just taking the shots with F12/Steam, then they aren't saved by the game at all, only by Steam.

For some reason the screenshots of the game for me are here:

C:\Users\%username%\OneDrive\Documents\My Games\Starfield\Data\Textures\Photos

The default folder for me was: 'C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Starfield\Data\Textures\Photos' i use mods and... idk why now i've another folder where the screenshots get saved, in 'C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Starfield\Photos' instead; but they don't show up now on the loading screens, the last mod that i'd installed was the 'Starfield Community Patch', dk if that's the issue, why they don't display on the loading screens of the game or in the in-game's galery, but they're taken and stored on that last folder.

@charles_wipman, there is an issue with the photos no longer showing up on loading screen in game if you change the setting in the ini file for "sResourceDataDirsFinal=". Some mods on Nexusmods instruct you to do that though, and some come with a StarfieldCustom.ini file where that change is already made.

Check your starfieldcustom.ini file to see if "sResourceDataDirsFinal=" is set to anything other than absolutely nothing. That could be what is causing your issue.

Also check if your starfieldcustom.ini file has an entry for "sPhotoModeFolder=", it doesn't by default, and that could also be causing your issue.

Many thanks man, delete the 'sPhotoModeFolder' and leave the 'sResourceDataDirsFinal=' under the [General] tag fixed it; i've recovered my pho journey throug the game thanks to you.

They dont make it easy do they. I found mine in C:\Modding\MO2-instances\Starfield\overwrite\Textures\Photos. I guess if I don't use mods, they would be somewhere else. If anyone else is struggling, try searching your C: drive for "Photo_202*.png". If you are reading this after 2029 search for "Photo_203*.png" instead.

If there is anything I am getting fed up with it is software developers who decide it's time to stop allowing users base options like where they want to store/install stuff.
