Why is the damage only 8 per hit? My generic Maelstrom has 43 dmg.

I don't have a role for a Maelstrom in my tactics, but I wonder if anyone does?

It's good in the early game if you find yourself fighting Crimson Fleet pirates a lot because they drop ammo for it. Your Maelstrom is probably an advanced version and/or has a semi-auto mod while this is a calibrated one. Unique weapons don't show their quality level.

Good tip! My generic Maelstrom is full auto with 150 fire rate. Overall, I prioritize my rifles, like this, depending on ammo availability:
1) Beowulf
2) Tombstone
3) Maelstrom

Probably base quality version, vs Calibrated/Refined/Advanced Maelstrom you already have.
could also be useful to compare with similar mods

1. Perks are only applied to damage when equipped.
2. The internal mod is Hair Trigger.
3. The ammo mod is Armor Piercing.

I'll check that out.

I'm comparing it to advanced. I'll play with the mods and see if I can get it close to 43 dmg.

I still think there's some kind of bug going on here. Rewards should be appropriate for your character level. You shouldn't get a unique calibrated Maelstrom when you can already find the advanced version. This is also how most of the quest rewards works. Let's see what the patch brings.

This magsniper will become your rifle of choice when you find one.

Indeed. I had one, in another lifetime. But can't seem to find another advanced instigating version, even in the shops.

I have one, but honestly, I hate using it because that whole have to hold the trigger a second to charge sucks. Too often I would find holding the trigger down did not even charge the next shot. Then of course this is like the first gauss rifle that has no silencer.
