Contraband
Why is it not possible to hand over contraband to the authorities? As a ranger, it's hard for me to leave contraband lying around in the area. The only option so far is to throw the goods out into space.

Yeah, as a member of the UC Vanguard I was asking this myself as well.

I don't think there's an option to officially hand it over. I unofficially hand it over to the Trade Authority at Wolf\The Den every time.

because this game is about the illusion to play as what you want but actually not allow you to do and act as such a person.

Ya, I would think Tod wants his kidney back.

It would be nice to have a prompt to tell you have some contraband on your ship so before you jump you can dump it. When capturing ships it's a pain to search everything you had on your home ship then make sure everything that you gained on the "newly acquired" ship.

An interesting piece of info I got from finding contraband on hostile ships is that sentient AI also seems to be banned in the Settled Systems.

There is one place to sell it, find it, I won't spoil although others will. So, the problem doesn't exist. And in the meantime you can stock contraband in a small outpost with a crate in it. Or what should also work is: you enter the Alpha Centauri system manually but not at Jamison, then you fast-travel to New Atlantis, this should work to get you in the city without you being scanned. (I haven't used this because I don't think you can sell contraband at NA, but I read it in the forums that you won't get scanned).

The trading authorities are good to 'wash' stolen goods that you pick-up, you can sell and re-buy them to make them clean.

I'm not sure if you understand me correctly. I know ways to sell the contraband.
As a ranger, I wouldn't sell them, I would destroy them or hand them over to the authorities. And that doesn't work.

Then just eject them from ship's cargo into the sea of blackness.. Or find a random cave on a desolate moon to drop them.

I doubt that's in the game, but who knows. Generally if a vendor or NPC will not take or buy your contraband, then the cargo dialogue will simply not list it.
I get rid of contraband quick so it's out of my inventory until I sell it.

It's an RP problem. Stolen artwork shout be returned, not spaced.

there is a disposal on the WOLF station, and they pay a bounty for each & every piece turned in.
Sometimes, you just have to fill in the blanks in the story with imagination.

Cave option then. Create an Aladdin style cave filled with wondrous treasures. Saved for the day when someone creates a mod to return all of the stolen artwork and Va'ruun heresies.

There's a small workaround for checking if there is contraband aboard:

Open the starmap, select Jemison, then The Lodge from the dropdown Icon bar, and take a look... ...if you get the optiuon to land with the "X"-key, all is fine, do so. If this option is greyed out, then you have contraband on board. The game kinda offers you the chance to witness your scan roll. :D

You need to be in space or landed for this to work, though, If you try this while being docked at some station or ship, the game will always grey that "Land"-Option out.

Another option: Jump to the Den, register the ship, then open the Ship Builder and do some little thing - move a gun to another hardpoint, e.g. After that click confirm to "All Items will be moved to cargo hold." Now you can scroll through your cargo hold inventory list and look out for the contraband warning triangles. Scanning the Aid and Misc tabs there works a lot faster than piocking through all the nooks and crannies of an unknown ship...
