Mr. Ron Hope
Did anyone else hate the man the first time you met him? My opinion of him was sealed the moment he said ".... on the Council ..." And no, I didn't blink an eye when the end of that quest chain came.

He likes to think of himself as a pillar of the community but you know he abuses his power and workers when nobody is looking over his shoulder.

I'm not moved into emotion easily. So, no he didn't. Life is a grey state of being. You only notice how dim you've become by a brighter being that comes into your view. Ego, we all have it, some of us show it off in spades.

it did take me some time to decide. I was only shown a glimpse of the man after all.
I had to think of the larger picture and put my own emotion aside for the greater good.

He was saved and told to be a better man.

I saw a weak and pitiable man who long ago let greed overshadow his sincere concern for those working under him and had no regard for their true wellbeing or safety anymore, just their lip service.

So I put him down like I would any other spacer scum.

Only problem I had was that long after I had finished that quest, He had been gone for a while. A couple of security guards tried to shoot me in the lobby while all the other NPCs were fine with my presence. I ran after the one I had to talk to that was running away, and we did business for the colony ship mission. Anyways I ran out of the lobby passed the still shooting security guards and left. I never aggroed. Those npc guards must have been left over somehow from that mission where you find out the truth. Anyways They did a really good job at making a believable character that made you angry.

Ya I had that too when went back for another quest. Was no issue gunning them down for what it is worth. Not even a bounty on my end.

That's what he became when he hired those mercenaries for that job. He doesn't really care about people. He only cares about the peope that he can use. It's sad that people fall for his act.

I wanted to have him replaced and arrested. It would have been nice to make an example of him. But he is so egotistical that he always escalates the situation to a confrontation so...:grwdeath:

Yeah I was going for that convo option too, and like in the end he did try to shoot a Freestar Ranger, not the brightest reaction versus taking some jail time.

In my mind too, that revealed depths of what he was capable of, so ya, at that point his employees were no better off with or without him as whose to say he wouldn’t sell them out too.

You became spacer scum. The guards remember you, murderer.

I took a couple of bribes and let the people keep their jobs, I'm not trying to save the world.

He was someone I wanted to like. When the truth came out I was fairly disappointed in him.

He sealed his own fate in the end. I only felt bad about the guards and assistant that died for him.

I wanted to like him too. Only cause I love the voice actor. I've been hearing his voice acting since Morrowind.

It's just a slight twist on a classic plot line from wild west movies. The outwardly good mayor/governor/etc hires bandits to run the settlers off so he can buy up the land cheap, and then has his plans thwarted by the heroic stranger that rides into town and decides to help the settlers out.

The major difference i saw was that Ron Hope had managed to convince himself that he was doing this for the greater good , while in most of the movies the guy playing the role is just a greedy bastard.
Topper Oct 7, 2023 @ 5:58pm
I like Ron Hope, he's the typical liberal soft-socialist leader who got rich in a capitalistic world to give back to his community. Then he used his influence to become part of the government, so he could take property from evil capitalist middle class folx, who exploit their workers to run a farm. The middle class is and always was the bane of humanity. So serves them right to get their land taken away, for the greater good of the commune.

Unfortunately, I was romancing Sarah at the time, and she's a hard core capitalist pig. So I murdered Hope to get in her pants.

But secretly, Ron Hope is my role model.
