Second best option is probably an Xbox controller.
EDIT: couldn’t resist…anyways, personally I use a wireless Xbox controller for PC. It’s served me well. I have one of those Steam controllers and I was surprised at how much I DIDNT like it. It just feels very bulky and heavy and I just couldn’t get used to the dual track pads instead of analog sticks.
Xbox Series Controllers are the best, since Microsoft creates the drivers for Windows, they default to Xbox controller mapping. It's the most plug and play out of any options.
However the xbox one controller was great on PC through the Halo "master chief collection" play through.
You know all games since Morrowind have been on console too right haha...? Plus what does 'proper' even mean in that context lol...?
In context, morrowind was great on PC, console version sucked.
Not compared to other games at the time, it was amazing for a game like that to be on console, people loved it... I played it on PC, but the console version was fine and good enough for console players...
UI was great on PC and ♥♥♥♥ on Xbox. Ever since that port, PC user interface has suffered. I understand it, easier to build for that market and port to the PC.
Heck I even bought the Starfield controller by xbox for this game.
