Sharing my best roleplay idea that made me connect with the game more!
I’ve been trying several playthroughs choosing several different backgrounds and traits but for some reason, I can’t get the hang of my character. To name a few, a chef, long hauler, ronin and xenobiologist all appealed to me but then when I’m irrevocably assigned as a miner for Argos Extractions, then later as an explorer for Constellation, it all left me feeling disconnected. Who is my Spacefarer? How did I know how to build mining outposts, shoot guns and pilot ships, the things I love doing in-game?
That is until I came up with an idea: my character is Eric Branson, the young son of Argos Extractions tycoon Harold Branson yet hidden from the public’s eye. Mr. Harold is planning his retirement, and along with his wife and business partner Linda, thought that Eric, despite extensive trainings, could learn from experience, the ropes of this industry that he would soon be inheriting. It would be the best “hands-on” experience for him, he is to be assigned directly to one of their best, highly trusted supervisor, Lin (not only is Lin working for the company for over a decade, but they also know her service as a veteran in the Colony Wars). Eric would also be working with Heller, another miner with excellent recommendations from Lin herself, who’s served Argos for 8 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Branson, with the skepticism of the board, allowed for the immediate assignment of Eric, under the condition that he is to remain anonymous due to his background, not even Lin is aware of who he truly is (hence the File Not Found Background).
Eric possesses the wellness skill, is trained with ballistic pistols and can pilot a class-A ship. An empath and introvert, this plan is something he was quite nervous about, but looking on the bright side, he was excited to see the mines— and space, without the confines of what usually surrounds the young heir.

One of the most memorable moments of his childhood was feeling awe after seeing a fleet of colossal Argos Extractions cargo ships all lined-up, their pilots and miners parading in all yellow jumpsuits for the inauguration of one of their outpost. He knew he’d inherit and run the company one day, yet he thought he’d rather be much fond of being either a pilot or miner. A rock collection, or rather a rock museum he helps curate for the Argos Company, is a hobby he shares similarly with Heller.

One rumor circulating this endeavor is that the Argos Extractions board found the founders plan of sending their son to experience the mines is risky and impulsive, which could very well end in disaster for the future of the company. They collectively agreed to hire an undercover bodyguard (Hero-worshipped trait— adoring fan) to watch over Eric under the guise of inexplicable admiration.

Unfortunately for Eric, his second mission for Argos was a contract for Barret, a member of Constellation. His fate will forever be changed when Lin asked him to pick up an anomaly— an unknown artifact, despite Heller’s warning of unstable readings from the site.

And this is where his adventure begins! Thanks for reading!

I also have this problem about the mining start... I am going for a homesteader who left to work for Argos to save up for his own ship. He is good at combat fighting off spacers in the sol system etc etc

At least we weren't prisoners on our way to our execution, and thank the powers that be we haven't met anyone who use to be a miner until they took an Equinox blast to the knee.

Homesteader is a relative to mining as well, surveying is necessary for both
