FIRST CONTACT: The most annoying mission in the entire game

Okay, I got to the point where I purchased a grav drive for the ECS Constant.
I used the console command you need to use because the mission is bugged, and they appeared in orbit around Porrima.

...and now I have absolutely no idea what to do next, and the game isn't giving me a scrap of direction.
The waypoint points to the ship...or out of the ship if I've boarded it.
The mission log _only_ says to find the ship.
Hailing the ship gets me conversation options that amount to nothing more than, "Hey, how ya doin'?" There was one telling them to leave, but they won't. Or don't. Either way.
All of the consoles I'm supposed to use to help fix the ship are locked. I can't seem to do anything.

...so now what? *boggle*

Seriously, WTF am I supposed to do to finish this stupid mission???

There should be two starting points. The people on the Constant or go to Paradiso Resort on the planet. The Security there should also start the quest.

I'm guessing using the console messed it up for you. What did you need the console for?

A npc on the ECS ship will give you letters from the people of the ship for their relatives somewhere in the universe (sorry forgot his name). You can do this several times BUT this quest is often bugged.

Much about ECS Constant quests seems bugged. I had no problems during the first quest. Got the marker to the new location after they left Paradiso, found the ship again using the quest marker under 'activities': 'location of ECS Constant', got a new quest about finding lost relatives, did the quest, but suddenly the marker of both quests (including 'activities') pointing where to finish the quest shows to Paradiso again. No ship to be found. I looked through all the systems, where before there was an icon for the ECS Constant somewhere, but it's gone too. Nothing to be done I guess. Just wait for the next patch.

It's a known bug.

And that ends the "First Contact" mission?

I am not sure about this but i was thinking that after all the letters delivered should end this? I was not able to see this happen because after two letters delivered it bugged for me.

I haven't seen anybody say anything about letters.

All I know is the ship won't leave Porrima orbit and the game is giving me no direction as to why not.

I had no problems with that quest. Ship was there fine when I got there. However I didn't go there til I got the activity listing to go visit that's the quest starter. Maybe its going there on your own before getting it mentioned is the issue. But that doesn't help you at this point.

The letters quest mentioned above is a sidequest on the ship from Abe but I don't think you can get it until after First Contact, and yes, that one is absolutely broken.

I mean, I did get them the Grav Drive they needed...but every walkthrough I've read says there's more to do which the game won't let me do.

I don't think my initial contact with the Constant was all on my own; I'm pretty sure I was sent there, probably by the dudes in Paradiso. Not sure. But I definitely talked to them about their crankiness over the colonists wanting to land.

From what I remember, the next step after getting the grav drives was to talk to the chief engineer on the Constant, after which you fiddle with three consoles. You talk to the captain again after that and that should be where it ends.

There are a few sidequests on board, but those aren't directly connected to First Contact. Anyway I don't have any helpful advice if you're not getting the Engineer part.
