Rangers Confiscate Contraband Mod [To Come]
Sooo...I complete the Freestar Collective questline, get my spiffy new Star Eagle, take it out and whoop up on some spacers, take their cheap tub of a boat and head back to Akila to sell. But before I do, I inspect the inside, find a briefcase of stolen art, drop off at a nearby planet, unload the contraband, and head back to Akila.

I could have sworn I went up and down the boat and didn't find anything else showing a little yellow or little red icon (they don't care about the reds, but I do!). Lo and behold, I pull up and see the 0% chance to hide the contraband. I get arrested and pay a fine. What the blue blazes?

I'm a freak'n ranger! I should be able to confiscate this stuff. I get arrested and no one cares as long as I pay the fine?

Unacceptable.

My first mod will be UC Vanguard / Freestar Rangers confiscate goods. You have it in your pocket, pull up to UC/FS space, and a scanner says, "Well done, my good sir! You're a gentleman and a scholar! We shall write poetry of your great deeds. I shall sing 'toss a coin to your ranger'!"

Okay, maybe not all that. But you won't get FREAK'N arrested!

We should have a lockbox to turn in "contaband" legally.

Yes, officer, I want to turn in this xenowarfare tech that I have. What? Yeah, I know literally all the settled systems has outlawed even looking at this stuff for the past hundred years.

What do the NPC rangers do with the confiscated tech? Gouge out their eyeballs with their thumbs?

That sound like making sure it doesn't fall into the wrong hands should be a priority then.

The logic of some:

Pilot: Sorry, sir, I didn't realize I had this xenowarfare tech on the spacer ship I took from spacers.

NPC Ranger pilot: GUILTY! Pay the fine and go to jail! [Confiscates the xenowarfare tech]

NPC Ranger co-pilot: Now you're guilty! You have to pay the fine! Now you go to jail! [Confiscates the xenowarfare tech.[

NPC Cook: OMG! GUILTY GUILTY GUILTY! Now you pay the fine and you go to jail!

theres a Tiny diff, between confiscating it and Fencing it at the next spaceport :D

isnt there is a place you can go take that illegal stuff too, maybe sell it all there if there is a chance some is not legally obtained? idk ive not played the pirate and taken a ship yet

Ignorance of the law is no excuse for breaking it. Pay the court a fine or serve your sentence. Your stolen goods are now forfeit.

You're missing the point. I'm a freak'n ranger doing the job they sent me out to do! Why do I get arrested confiscating it from a spacer when the NPC ranger scanning my ship confiscates it from me and doesn't get arrested! We're on the same G******d side!

Besides, I stopped off at a barren planet, threw out the stolen artwork, and inspected the spacer ship from bow to stern and still got tagged with contraband, even though I didn't find any more.

It's a dumb mechanic. Mark my word, there's gonna be a fix when the creation kit drops.
