Agreed. For a rugged, pioneer-type bisexual vegan space cowboy, he sure does whine a lot.
Right? I really think he was written by a guy who had literally never had so much as a single conversation with a real conservative person in his life. As in he really assumes that guys riding around in the Old West, working oil rigs today, or whatever are cut from the exact same cloth as the baristas at his local Starbucks.
It's weird, its divisive, and its part of the reason why we can't have nice things. If we don't object to absurd (and insulting) caricatures like this, we are going to get more low-quality writing just like it in the future.
I genuinely think, that who ever invented this character has a paradox to solve: (1) Obviously, the creator has a thing for masculine cowboys, which is afair the #4 male stereotype who US females are attracted to (after Firefighter, Vampire and Pirate) (2) This cowboy has to be within the specs of what is tolerated by the woke outrage mob, so he can't be a misogynist --> has to have a wife , has to be a family guy, can't have a son, can't be racist, so his kid has to be mix-gender AND female or non-binary. Must be lawful good, must be aware of social issues (aka woke), can't be strong and independent (because he's a male), must be a good dad, has no masculine hobbies, can't have a clean home/car/ship (Cora complains about her dad's ship smelling funny), must be a cuck, can't be straight ....
So ... that's Sam Coe.
if you play as a female, hes straight, making your entire point moot
Of all the complaints I have about Sam Coe, this is definitely not one of them, your bigotry is on public display.
Just get rid of the rest of your crew, then you are with Cora alone. Feel free to role play with her whatever you like.
Yeah, this game is sick, dude.
If you discard any sense of continuity and logic, your argument is valid.
I mean you can say that if you like, but unless you actually support your statement with facts its just like, your opinion, man.
On a side note, I wonder if there were National Socialists who claimed Jews were bigots for pointing out Antisemitic discrimination?
You're not entirely wrong. As I said in my OP, Starfield avoids many of the more classic racist and sexist tropes that Leftists favor these days and I am perfectly willing to recognize that positive aspect of Sam Coe.
If he were a character in a Lord of the Rings TV series, he would be an angrily incompetent racist fool. In Star Wars he would be a buffonish example of a wasted life. In the MCU he would be a poorly-written supporting character in a movie named after him.
The point of this whole thread is that if we don't want more examples of low-quality writing, to see more formerly brilliant legacy IPs ground to valueless dust by political pandering, we have to call this nonsense out in the only way the elites will pay attention: with our wallets.
One of the saddest sacks of ♥♥♥♥ to ever (dis)grace my monitor. His kid also, is thoroughly annoying, it's a pity her mother didn't use the pill.
I wish I could convey to you how much I hate when angsty internet kids say "its a skill issue", but thats what this is. Starfield space combat is dumbed down to simple point and click. With no situational awareness tools and no ability to dodge incoming fire it is nothing more than a level check. Turn towards enemy ship and fire, either they die or you do.
X-Wing and its successors have a set of radar screens that show you where enemies are in relation to you, as well as distance to them. In some space games the radar will even tell you if they are approaching you, flying away, or shooting.
Evasive maneuvers also work in games with good space combat. Projectiles in Starfield are essentially hitscan so if an enemy is shooting at you, you are taking damage. If your numbers aren't better than theirs you lose, skill has no impact.
Lastly, an interim fix might be to correct the divide in difficulty between ground and space combat. Ground combat is fairly easy even at max difficulty with no skill points spent, space combat is manageable when you put all your points into it.
