How to ENJOY THE GAME. What to try, what to avoid.
Game is okay if you do the right things. Bad if you do the wrong.

(Yeah, it's a fail that you have to know this stuff, but you are here, so I'll tell you how to do the fun.)

The start of the game, for most of us, feels like we could write it in our sleep.

This part sucks. Follow the main quest until you are told to go to the eye, which will get you a quest to meet best waifu Andreja.

Go until you meet Andreja, keep going until you can recruit her, then ditch the main quest.

Find her is given by 'vlad' on space station Eye.

Meet her, get her as comp, and then dump the main for awhile.

If you can't wait that long, skip to here.

Starter ship is crap. Go to Earth's moon. Land. Wait for other ships to land. Run over and steal one from the ecilptic mercs, the crimson fleet, or the spacers. Go upgrade it's reactor only after register. Merc ships are best stock.

Go commit a minor crime, like stealing in public, and surrender. Go to jail. This is a quest start.

Or go to the big tower in the middle of new atlantis and look for a jolly fatman at the desk. Ask for a job at vangaurd. Another quest start. (join vanguard.)

Or go to the middle of the free star town and join the rangers. Also quest start.

Last option, look for standing screens in new atlantis, one has a job application for ryujin. Not the best quest, don't do first, but pretty good prizes.

If you hate all these quests, you hate the game and can quit.

AVOID EXPLORING. Exploring sucks and is all recycle. It's only good for stealing landed ships (starter ship sucks) or raiding recycled outposts for loot / new guns.

You start getting equipment you can keep forever around level 60. If you want to cheat to there to start on the good equipment, that's the level you want. Disables achievements unless you cheat them back on.

That's the guide to 'more fun in this game.' Hope you like it, I do, but didn't the first ten hours.

Got bored of reading at this point. He's one of those.. yawn.. next.
Absolutely incredible that anyone could be so arrogant and sure of their own subjective opinions on the game that they think they are in a position to give advice on what to 'enjoy' and what to avoid. The suggestion that not following the precise path laid out in the OP will only lead to disappointment is utterly ridiculous.

My first playthrough was absolutely nothing like what is 'advised' here and included lots of exploration. Remarkably, even though I didn't follow this 'advice' I enjoyed pretty much every minute of it.
Neon must be the worst loading screen trap Bethesda could ever make. EVERY quest requires to enter the other side of town which are behind doors of loading screen.
The only upside are, they are short and rewarding quite good credits.

After you get done trolling the forums out of boredom try this:
Find a planet with small birds that fly around and go duck hunting with a negotiator.

Skip main story completely, companions aren't needed and they're all annoying and screw you up in stealth situations. Powers are ridiculous junk. Just start exploring planets that have nothing to do with main or side quests. Build outposts and ships til you're bored then shelve the game .

The main story is the games worst aspect so new players should just avoid it
