How bad is the writing really?

I just want to point out that the game ignores almost all science fiction genres and opts instead for what amounts to, I think, 'internet informational trends' as the basis for its plot. I don't want to spend time giving examples of negatives within the game itself though. I just want to bring attention to a basic plainness that exists in the plot. I think we all are aware of this each in our own way. But this isn't necessarily subjective because there are categorized and specific genre of science fiction - Starfield just did not apply any sufficient imagination. And even though this does allow one to focus and create a personality in relation to the plot, the plot is still s*** which is not a foundation worth building on. The UC is poor ripoff of Starship Troopers. The Freestar are a poor ripoff of Firefly. The pirate stuff is as bland, generic sci fi as it gets. Multiverse drivel is the current zombie epidemic of sci fi and movie writing.

The expanse doesn't really have a 'villain'
until like season 4?

I would rather people in a realistic game speak like morons than speak like poets.

It would be absolutely cringe to hear people speak like a fantasy rpg like BG3.

Sometimes I wanna turn my brain off and do missions, not try to understand a poem.

I don't really expect sci fi epics from my video games.

The simpler stories like halo (halo 1- halo 3 lore before it got butchered) and dead space for example are the best.

Yeah Marco isn't great, but Jack Sparrow in space? Really?

He's just an egomaniac terrorist with a god complex

If anything Miller is more like Jack Sparrow. (Drunk, weird, clever, irreverent)

The writing is really bad compared to many sci fi books that they could have drawn inspiration from.

One of my favourite authors of all time is Jack Vance. In his books humanity has also taken to the stars and Earth is mostly forgotten.

He explores the theme of cultures going on to develop in weird and fascinating ways on their own in alien environments. Developing habits and rulesets that seem equally weird and alien for the reader.

They could have done something like that with some of the planets and factions in the game or drawn on the many other excellent sci fi out there.
