looks are only good for parades :P
edit: and frankly it does not look bad at all, nice symmetry
Nice work
If you armed up and left no room for fuel or passengers you won't be taking any.
Ofc you could fully cover it up with structur parts etc.
I just tried to find a good way for a good forced connection between the habs.
I don't want a random maze ship.
But ya, we need either customizable geometry parts or simply a lot more simple cubes/spheres/pyramids etc etc for way more varity in structure.
Maybe Beth will add them in an update.

4 living hab on the side, workshop, infrimary as the center walkway, 2x2 battlestation in the middle with a captain quarter to it side... no ladders, only centered connection. how it is done is the fuel tank, reactor, grav drive and shield occupied the space between the hab so they can only connect via the centerline. no mess, clean and compact. you can get from 1 end of the ship to the other across only 3 module.
i try to keep the profile of the ship narrow so it doesn't become a big target in combat. while the bridge is up front, it has a "decorative" superstructure to make it look like a ship. it docking is on the port side so the windows in the hab and battlestation can give a good view of what we are dock at, the top and bottom windows are just too small for a good view.
my first ship was wider and bigger, closer to what you design is as I was a sucker for windows as well, but then i realised it was very hard to find my crew onboard the ship, so i eventually rebuild it around a straight core. also by occupying all the windows and doorway, alot of the ship interior gets deleted... I really want to preserve the toliets and stuff so the ship look more "functional" even if you don't really need toliet.. i also deleted the armoury because the game is just so buggy... this is more of my compromise with the games various issue...
