Attention Interior Decorators!
Don't decorate. Don't do it. Anything you place down on any sort of furniture WILL eventually phase through surfaces, both the immeidate surface such as a table, and HAB FLOORS. And from their vibrate under the world and be lost forever.

I placed a simple potted plant on a "coffee table" I built inside a HAB which I was making into a bedroom. Logged off. Came back. The plant phased through the coffee table, through the hab, and was outside on the beach. I also noticed other items simply gone, possibly because they fell in such a way they went straight through the center of a raised hab and are just now gone.

Why is it Bethesda can copy paste all of their ideas from other games, but in such the laziest, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ways possible, and we still ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fall for the bullshite?

This has been an settlement problem since FO4, and is a camp problem in BG3.

The game engines in general don't handle well our OCD desires to make our dollhouses exactly how we want them.

I understand the frustration, I am one of the OCD people who spends 5 minutes trying to get the silly dish of Alien Barbecue to sit on the dining table by the window just right.

The game engines just can't do it yet.

Yeah I'm waiting for mods.

Though they had a perfectly good few mods (Place Everywhere, OCDecorator) made for Fallout 4 that showed them exactly what to do to make decorating great for the players and chose to simply lazybum past it and deliver...this.

That's incorrect, as above the mods I literally just pointed out that show the engine can do it.

My outposts have been fine and are decorated. If you could not decorate then every single object in POIs that you go into would be falling through surfaces. It obviously works. Do people think those objects are part of bigger objects? When you see a cup on a table that can be taken that means the cup was put there by a designer and it is 100% separate from the table it is on. If what was posted was true, this would not work.

Oh yeah? You try jumping on a decorated table then and see what happens to your carefully placed things.

Ha not that you can even carefully place things :rfacepalm:

Do you think they should stay there? Did you glue them down or something? They are separate object each with physics being applied to them. If you jump on the table they will scatter.

And we know it works. We see it in every single mission and city we go to. If it didn't work none of it would be there. Weapons would fall through the world, bodies would fall through, cups, boxes, etc. Everything would. What happens is the object interpenetrates the collision mesh such that the collision detection does not detect a collision and so gravity keeps pushing it down. Eventually it falls off the world map.

Ha not that you can even carefully place things
You can. Hold E to grab the object. LMB and RMB to rotate. SHIFT to change the axis of rotation.

Keep in mind Bethesda can't make everything, and shouldn't try. Part of the beauty of their game engines is that they are so very scriptable and open. This allows people to take the game farther than the company itself ever could. In exchange, they get long-term sales and a gold standard reputation.

I think also that, on the outpost side, they did learn a LOT from the modders - they made it so that the settlement size is already huge compared to what FO4 had, the snap to fit is much, much better, no more fences making contact to a hillside at one point and otherwise sticking off into the air, no more special mods needed to clean out trash, debris and other stuff that ruined the outpost building. Credit where it is due.
I think depends on planet. Seems fine on the planet I built, I don't know the name, but it's the default "Dream Home" planet (where your rented/bought home is located from the character creator trait).

And they removed the wires which were problematic. Now they are a 'logical thing' and power works within a range without wires but you can wire up stuff if you want to go outside of the range.

They do need a rotation snap feature because the LMB and RMB is far to imprecise.

Yes they should stay there, OCDecorator even had a little machine you could stick random items in and it would drop a physics off version you could then place using Place Everywhere. Assuming one of our other mods hadn't already put the item in their build menu for us to place.

They just need to do that to items, either put all items into our build menu (then give us Place Everywhere level of utility for careful precision placement) or just have the OCDecorator "machine" that turns the physics off the random items (then give us Place Everywhere level of utility for careful precision placement).

What they did instead was laziness, they didn't even try to give us much of anything and completely failed to deliver a proper placement system.

oh lord now we have interior decorators arguing in here

So you want the physics turned off on all objects you place and you think that is a better approach. I disagree.

Haha. I purposely went to a local POI near my outpost and stole a bunch of junk to place in my outpost to make it look more liveable.

I don't care, it works better than having an item bouncing around the room and/or sinking into the coffee table.

So now we have to wait for mods, which is fine because I guarantee they will do a better job than Bethesda would have anyway.

Why don't you go apply and work for them and share with them your grand pearls of wisdom and show them how its done?
