Magsniper seems underwhelming

On paper, it's my highest damage output right now. But it's 3 shots (no crits) to take down a particular zone boss, whereas my less powerful Lawgiver and Hard Target can do the same guy in two - with much less recoil on the shot. The sneak damage modifier being what it is, seems like for me anyway I'm getting more out of the less-damage/suppressed/less-recoil guns I've been holding onto for 10 levels (33 now) versus this magsniper I picked up.

are you charging the gun? if you just squeeze off a shot it does almost no damage. you have to hold the trigger and let it charge up. when its steadily vibrating, release.

Same. I run with short scoped beowulf (207) and long scoped hard target (500). and for some reason my magsniper (1500) is underwhelming. Like game simulates overpen or something.

The AI makes sneak and stealth kill very powerful. If you are at a distance, you can make every shot a stealth shot. Even if they are shooting back. I took this approach when I could, and could clear an area with ease.

You do need to hold the 'fire' button for a while to get max damage. this, with sneak attack (2.5x?) gives very nice damage though? Prefer it over the 'hard target' especially with the 8x zoom

In this, I found the best option weapon being long range mid damage, with rapid fire. The high damage weapons are just time sinks.

Are you maxing out the skill tree for ballistic weapons ?

magsniper is, by a pretty wide margin, the best sniper rifle i've found in the game. Hard Target consistently fails to kill on stealth shots. Magsniper's main draw back is the vibration while charging, but it does crap-tons of damage.

shot a spacer in the face with Hard Target stealthed, and they just stagger and say something like oh my eyes, then they go back to fighting.

I see, I haven't been charging it, how did you find out that you have to? I have close to 200hrs and did not know.

definitely. no sniper rifle should serve as an everything gun though. it's a situation specific tool.

Semi-auto Beowulf is a pretty good everything gun. nice damage, and depending on how it's outfitted it could be good in every situation.

IIRC it also doesn't have much in the way of armor penetration, even with mods. It doesn't matter much with a fully cranked up headshot, but can be underwhelming against boss enemies.

- suppressed/scoped
- 40/magazine
- 319/bullet (5x if stealth)

There are many like it - but this one is mine.

orion is a double barreled laser rifle. it's a decent gun.

warning though, there are some animals and enemies that lasers don't do well against.

and ammo for it isn't as common as beowulf ammo
