AngryTurtle in the video experience the bug with and without the crew. So it is a real bug, but the actual cause is yet to be determined.
What is not mentioned is:
- What the original base ship was
- What mods are in use
- How many times the player has captured ships
After my friend showed me the video I tried replicating it a few times and was unable to do so. The ship I used was built over the Razorleaf.
If I was to make a guess something somewhere went corrupt at some point in the save and the issue keeps resurfacing because of the discrepancy.
Maybe try selling your current shield and buy a lowbie shield then exit the ship builder with the lowbie shield and then go back and upgrade the shield back again? Speculating the shield computations need to be reset somewhere.
To see the ship's multiplier, you open the console and select the ship then enter:
This defaults to 1, but then your own Shield Systems skill is also applied to it. So if you have shield systems at rank 4, it should be 1.6. And if you are sitting in the cockpit chair, any crew bonuses are also applied. With my own skill at rank 4 and Omari Hassan assigned as crew, my ship has 1.8.
To correct it, use that first command above to see what it is, and then do
My Frontier was bugged out and had a multiplier of 3, so my shield's were ridiculously strong. I used this fix to lower them to where they belonged and they have remained at the correct level ever since.
In the modding discord, people who have had the bug where shield multiplier was too low report the same success with the fix for that problem. Modders are aware of the problem, but no one has yet determined the actual root cause (that I've seen) which is why no mod to fix it is yet released.
