Inform yourself before buying a class c ship

Hi guys,

just a small hint, inform yourself online or in the game itself, what type of ship you really need/want. I bought a Stronghold for 350k (yes I'm a dumbass that listened to some stupid yourtube video without really looking at the stats) and I realized that this ship is a total mess.
The reactor is small, you have high tier fuel tanks that can hold 2200 fuel (who needs that???) a relatively small cargo space and the interior has been put together by a madman.

I wanted to switch to a Narwhale which costs roughly the same, but with a much better reactor (27 vs. 36), decent cargo etc. and now my Stronghold, unmodified and barely a few days old is worths 62k..what the freaking hell?

The resell values in the game are totally bonkers. One mistake in buying a ship and you need to grind for 300k credits again.
I undestand this for captured ships, but the game could at least set a tag (really bought ship) and make a realistic resell value, maybe 60% or something.

pretty much.. and if you build an outpost, with a large landing pad, you don't have to visit most of the various systems to build with almost everything available(some parts are custom). i personally just steal ships for looks and loot and then usually sell them pretty quick for landed ones.. in space i just blow them up.

My advice is to take the leap and start designing your own ship if you haven't yet. Build an outpost and slap down the big landing pad so you can work on your design in peace and quiet away from all the populated video lag. You will eventually gain access to most all the parts except the larger specialty habs(those you have to go to the manufacturer for), and you won't ever build something you can't fly.. Unlike boarding a filthy pirate ship only to find you haven't the skill to pilot it after you killed it's crew, or buying a ship that you can't fly yet. I just kept upgrading the Frontier myself, and now it's a class C behemoth that doesn't look anything like it's original form.
It's easy really.. Once you get the hang of how to layout a ship, you can make whatever you want. It beats buying pre-mades any day, and it's extremely satisfying...after the frustration of figuring it all out of course. Don't be afraid to save your game and rip your current ship apart to see how it's laid out, you can always re-load the save if you make a mess.. Good luck!

I personally find that stealing and registering a ship and then getting the money to build a new one from scratch is the most reliable way to get a great ship.

Why tho, plenty of free ones on planets or in space for the taking .. lots of them are Class C too. Why just today I got a C Class Vaarun Frigate, armed to the teeth with good cargo and movement.

Worth 300k that ship was, best part it was just sitting there waiting for me to clean the rats out and take her home.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like there are way more youtubers that have no idea what they are talking about with this game than usual. There are several where I was thinking "What? Are you high? Don't do that!" While watching their vids.

There is one relevant reason to buy a ship (one commentator said that already). Parts you cannot buy until you are level 60 or something. For example the 600 fuel tanks from the Stronghold (which nobody needs) or the 36 power reactor from the Narwhale (thats the reason I thinking about buying it).

Normally I would agree with you all, concerning building my own ship (which is fun), i really wanted to do that, but some of the best parts are level-locked and I don't want to level up 30 levels just to buy a better reactor.

they can be anywhere, i've found them in both UC and freestar areas while going for artifacts. the most recent va'ruun i snagged worth 335k was on the moon off of akila.
