I ended up mounting wing-like structures on the edges of my ship and putting 2 up, and 'flipping' the other 2 down to be able to get that 180 degree effect.
Makes me wonder if maybe I should just put all 4 on a single side facing the same direction, and just use that edge of my ship to circle an enemy if the situation calls for it.
as you can see the turret's placement on the ship from your location,
the turret should also be able to fire at you.
Basically a turret placed high up on a ship should be able to cover 360º around
the ship and 90º up.. But our "turrets" can't because they lack turning.
REAL turrets are the ones found both inside and outside bases...
So why can't ship turrets work like that ?.
You can. I had 4 turrets facing each direction on my ship at one point since they're terrible but look neat. They're very finicky with what can be near them. Overall they're a hassle and not worth. "You can't manually fire a turret" wtf Todd. Just get some railguns or obliterators/particle beams and 3 shot most ships. The Narwhal from Taiyo is packing some serious heat. After using the Narwhal's weapons dinky little turrets and lasers just don't cut it.
I have been trying to get a turret on the back of the stroud-eklund parts and it just wont let me have it backwards. Tbh I have not tried other vendors as thats my main builder.
Z to flip them btw.
As for what to call them, if you think tank turrets have 90' elevation, you've got something else coming. Calling them turrets even if they have restricted angles (not sure I buy that, though) is fine.
Turrets rotate.
That's it.
The elevational capabilities of many turrets are minimal, and it's not uncommon for a turret to have a limited rotational range rather than the full 360 degrees.
