Chameleon stealth
I haven't seen others posting much about it but the Chameleon modifier Doesn't do much on my play through. I have stealth lvl 3 and wearing the Ryujin Stealth suit, but still get spotted instantly by the guards in infinity LTD, even with 3/4 cover from other objects/walls.

stealth seems broke

from what ive seen/others have posted - stealth is simi useless. (i mean you are walking around in a big bulky space suit 99% of the time

camo mod/buff is handy - but once the enemies spot you its run away. even thn they still chase you.

i still use the mantis helmet (at lvl 46ish) but dont need it - it actually looks good to me.

but at first - it was kind of handy. i'd sneak up, use helm to check out and snip a few folks. but over all - but soon enough i'd just yolo it.

I play with suit and pack that have the chameleon modifiers. Keep in mind, you become visible when you move. Also, you make noise when you move, and cameras and sensor turrets seem to see through chameleon. probably have thermal sensors. But it does work pretty well in most places if I shoot a suppressed weapon while crouched and not moving. Enemies usually can't find me.

chameleon doesnt do anything currently. or effect is so minor thats its not noticeable.

However;

When you are doing missions indoors, TAKE OFF YOUR SPACESUIT. Go into inventory, and click it OFF.

Take it off, and stealth works just fine. You will be amazed. Suddenly sneaking, and melee backstabs are viable. Space suit gives such a big malus to sneaking, and thats what wrecks it for most people.

And outside in a vacuum...well, you have oxygen spell. Admittedly, I havent tested being without a suit in a cave on some moon, but as someone on youtube pointed out - which is how I learned that its the space suit that ♥♥♥♥♥ with stealth - as was pointed out, when you are outside, generally you can use distance to hide and snipe.

It's only useful when you're a certain distance away. I noticed the range I can't get detected is farther with it on.

Allegedly it's equipped weight* not just the presence of a suit. That's worth keeping in mind since suits do vary a lot in weight. Some lighter ones may still be worth wearing once your skills can compensate.

*unsure if weapon weight counts, though based on their older games I'd suspect not.

when i tried w/ zero sealth skill - i could snipe a few folks w/ a pistol - but was normally on some planets POI where i had idk range. i could caps a few folks before everything went wild.

never managed it IN a base/poi though. (but again i have zero skill...

maybe companion messes it up? most have no skill either - i did have a few times enemies would start shooting my companion after i sniped someone?

Most companies mess with stealth, except Andreja. She has a stealth modifier and auto chameleon when crouched.

yea - is what i thought - i heard/read she had the skill..

when i was first testing/playing at low level - i gave companion an item that gave them chameleon when crouched. worked well. but eventual - i was strong enough w/ good guns i'd just yolo most spots so it didnt matter.

NOW i'm wondering how it would work out if i sneaked inside a base.. may give it a try - getting ready to move to ng+ just to see story changes - i've still soooooooooo many none plot quests/missions to do. (wanted to save some.. 160ish hrs.. and only ever completed the terrormorph faction quest

Chameleon works just fine when you get the tier in stealth to show a colored hidden meter. You just have to be patient.

You can, albeit quite slowly, crab walk sideways past an enemy looking right at you through glass just a few meters away. You just take a couple of steps and as the meter gets near full orange, you stop. While stopped, chameleon drops the hidden meter to zero much more quickly than without it. Then rinse and repeat until you're past the enemy. You can try this out if you find an abandoned listening post. The first room you come to will have 2 pirates or spacers, etc. in it, one of them staring right out of the glass at the corridor you're have to use to get past them. I have not failed to sneak past them since I found come chameleon armor.
