to get to a new planet open the map and try to plot the route, if its got red lines you have to back up until they all turn white, you may need to make several jumps to get there
These are the same whether it is the same planet or another system:
- You can hit L, make sure the mission is active then press R and follow the on screen prompts to go there
- You can hit M to open the map, and drill down (as far as you can go), select the destination and follow the on screen prompts to go there
- If you have the mission set to active, from first person view you can hit f to enable your scanner, point at the mission marker and press e to fast travel
Potential gotchas:
- You can't always fast travel (eg unvisited places or overencumbered etc) so you might have to go via the planet map. Or if the system is different jump to the system first, then select the planet and travel to it, then land on the planet from there
- In this game you must sometimes hold buttons down until the indicator shows you've held it down long enough and works. It's a crappy xbox mechanic - this is the most likely problem I expect because you can press the indicated key and nothing happens
- don't use the "surface map" to travel, use the planet map (what you get when you press M)
To go to another Star System, when the screen showing the system you are in appears, tap the TAB key again - this will bring up a map showing all the Star Systems - select the one you want to travel to (you can only travel to those that show as white dots - ones that appear red are out of range and will require more than one jump to reach), left click on it with your mouse, and then hold down X to initiate travel to it - that will take you to the main planet in the system.
Good luck!
No need to wait while holding down tab, if that is annoying.
ok im on the map with the planets in the galaxy..it say missions L set course X back tab. i try to set the course it only says no fast travel. i dont even get the white or red lines i seen in the youtube videos and i dont know why.
you Manually select destination and the game will route the path (white lines, with red lines showing for new locations), all the shortcuts are to 'fast travel' but you need to manually route the path
note you need to go to each 'first' red spot one at a time
the map is a bit goofy and the game routing is horrible - you can route your own path but there are limitations and yes some of the main stoy require a ship with more jump range than the beginner ship (i bought the cheapest w/e it was at New Atlantis, it got me to the end)
the idea is you can only jump to known planets or those directly next to them, so to go 'deep into the unknown' you have to make small jumps and map the entire route like
Stick with it buddy, I am 64 and can cope so I am sure you can too.
