Bug? Instantly hostile ships.
So I jump to a random system to do a mission and some Ranger space ships are fighting some Spacers. I start attacking the spacers who show up in red then I start taking fire from a load of ships. I look and both sides are attacking me even though I didn't shoot at the ranger ships (I checked the name and it said spacer) and I was recently at Akilia and there was no problem so its not a bounty. I also sold all my contraband just before this so it's not like they scanned me and found some plus it's not even in there system so they shouldn't scan me.

So I am at a loss as to why this happened. It's also annoying because my companions got all angry at me for defending myself from getting are ship shot at. The only idea I have is that maybe a Ranger ship was behind the spacer and took a stray shot but I was locked onto the spacer so unlikely. It also seemed that the icons were already red before this.

If anyone has an idea why this is happening please let me know.

Yeh it's happened to me as well.. you hit a ship that's behind the pirate for example..

Yep. You accidentally hit one of the Rangers. Has happened to me several times with the UC. If you kill them all they don't stay hostile thankfully.

its pretty good. just dont shot on groups. if you shoot with a ar15 on a enemy that stand in a group, you can hit other peoples to. i see there not a problem
This. Even with a lock on, due to distance it doesn't mean you're going to nail them directly.

Yeah, this has happened to me a number of times with the FreeStar v Spacer random event.

I noticed it occurs when I jump in and begin to engage the Spacers right away, but the times when I flew closer and drew fire from the Spacers and then fought back - the FreeStar stayed non-hostile.

It could be stray fire hitting the FreeStar or it could be some AI weirdness where because the Spacers haven’t engaged you yet, your shooting at them first registers as a crime to the FreeStar AI.

Previous Beth games had similar issues like that - attacking an NPC marked as hostile in front of non-hostile NPCs would cause the non-hostile ones to turn hostile towards you (regardless of how little sense that it made).

If it happens, just clear out the Spacers and then grav jump away. You’ll have a bounty you’ll need to pay off, so either jump to FreeStar space and hail their law ships to turn yourself in and pay your bounty, or go to a bar in non-FreeStar space and use the bounty board to pay it off.

I have had Freestar ships become hostile to me as soon as I entered orbit. There was no bounty on my head, no reason for them to become hostile either.

All I did to fix it, was reload the quicksave that I'd made just 30 seconds earlier, and instead of jumping to the planet where the attack occurred, I went to sleep for three hours. When I woke up, I jumped to the same exact location and everyone was my pal, again.

So there is a weird bug that turns everyone hostile towards you. It's obviously a bug when all you need to do is take a nap.

Ok thanks for the comments but it's happened again this time it was only a single uc vanguard ship and there was no other ships and I never shot. It was on it's own and instantly shot at me. I have no bounty but I am enemies with sydef so maybe the ship was miss labelled as vanguard.

Console: 'KAH' Problem solved. Stupid bug.

Edit: Okay, *don't* use KAH. Sarah instantly hated my guts and basically told me what a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I was. ???

Well, on my ship I installed auto turret weapons on top of my Razorleaf ship and any fool that fires at my ship gets distroyed by the Obliterator turret weapons.

I just kill them all and pay the bounty. Its a common issue. They should take yet another page from NMS and give you a few hits 'oops' before getting mad, but I believe its a one hit and done problem here, and as noted, sometimes they just turn even when not targeted or attacked directly.
