What gets me is i have to hold down the forward key to stay at full speed, as soon as i let go my top speed halves.
What they are talking about is inertia. In reality, if you speed up in space you'll keep going that speed until you counteract it with an opposing force, instead of slowing down like you do now, as if there was atmospheric drag.
Elite Dangerous has a setting that lets you do that, but it's very difficult to make good use of. You may keep going faster, but you're no longer being as evasive so you may be an easier target if there are other opponents, or your target can keep up.
But in a game meant to be accessible to the masses it being how it is, isn't surprising.
I just want more control I think. I am spoiled by elite dangerous. I think thats why I'm having such a hard time enjoying the space combat/flight. I can fight at high speeds and even use my thrusters in such a way to encircle a target while raining fire. I can land an unguided missile right in the cockpit flying full blast.
Also, when the giant asteroids break i think they should break into smaller ACTUAL asteroids. If you flew and eagle or a cobra this games hard to adapt to.
I trucked around in an Anaconda all the time, so feeling like a tugboat isn't as foreign to me, heh.
