What is Max Speed?
I'm lv 60, maxed out piloting and ship design.
I've seen older posts stating people are using a lot of lower class engines, that helps?

I'm really just looking for numbers for max speed

I know there's crew and stats that help.
Just knowing the actual max numbers will help more :)

You NEED class A engines for max speed, Having class B or C engines decreases your unmodified max speed to 140 and 130 respectively.

170 with perk - edit: maybe 180
700 boost

I've heard 180 is top speed if your ship class, and weight, and specific engines all allow it.

My ships always top at 130 though because I build large for a balanced cargo ship with moderate speed.

If you mean you're contemplating using mods to raise the number of engines you can have, then I'm in the same position. Multiple Dunn 71s seem to be the best answer to the thrust/weight/pip consideration.

Isn't boosted max 150?

Awesome thank you all.
So B's and C's engines will max out around 130-140
While the A engines will hit 170-180
That very useful info :)

Do yall have an A class engine you can recommend? and how many total can I use?

Oh I have No interest in mods :)

I think the Razorleaf lists 150 max even after I added some mass from new reactor, grav drive, shield generator etc..

max 12 Energy total, this goes for all system, 12 is max, so three engines with 4 energy consumption or 4 with 3 consumption.

Get ship tech for better ship mods

You own level does unlock those better ship mods too, so you won't see them all without leveling up, it's not only perk dependent, the perk allows to choose them if your level is high enough

You forgot 6 with 2 consumption :)

The optimal setup muhahahaha!

There is one A class engine that gives you a base top speed of 180. Skills and crew will bump this number up. Boost speeds can get over 1k but not by much.

And remember, more engines is generally bad because you're using more power for the same speed. You need to use just the right amount of engines to support the mass of your ship, dont get too much.

If you're putting 12 power into engines, your build is very inefficient.

B & C have other strengths for balance reasons. otherwise people would all just assume C class everything is all you need. the goal is to mix your ship builds for the stats you desire.

A is fastest for engines but have the lowest defense and different types of A class engines have more maneuver thrust or more total thrust. you will find these variations across the class ranked parts so unlike say in Elite Dangerous... where A-rank everything... was the be -all - end - all until you begin messing with the engineer griiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnndddddd... yeah it really do be liek that... in SF you can just slap on different ranks for the stats you want.
