The amount of essential npc is a joke
Why is every other npc an essential. I cant even kill a thief in a side quest because he has to be essential.

Because it is not GTA nor a COD. Said thief is probably important for the quest co continue.

No it’s not. It’s a Bethesda game. An open world sandbox that gives the players freedom of choice and play style they choose. Good, neutral, evil, greed, romance even and so on. Yet this game has forgotten to add everything that made Bethesda games in the past great.

I meeeeaaaan...look. I'm in, I've enjoyed the game for 71+ hours now and I'm not even really that far into the main quest BUT I have encountered quite a few scenarios in which I agree with the OP on this one.

Perfect example, the board of directors for Paradiso. Why couldn't I drop that room full of people? Seriously? They were awful people all of whom were apparently "essential" NPCs even though they flat out aren't.

That's just one example of many that I've encountered thus far as well.

You can kill almost ALL NPCs in Morrowind and you can kill EVERY NPC in New Vegas. Has nothing to do with GTA or COD. Bethesda keeps getting farther away from their total freedom open world hand crafted games with every release.

With this character's death you have severed the weave of fate!

This is one of the things i hate most about the game. Just totally absurd over use of plot armour for no good reason and in the stupidest way. I actually just made another comment about it on another thread like 2 minutes ago lol.

Was great to be able to not only kill Vivec but trap his soul in a gem to enchant some robes later on. Morrowind offered so much freedom and each elder scrolls since has removed or restriced features it had, Starfiled is no different.

They made characters essential to actually protect the whole narrative of 'respecting the visible minorities'.

I mean if you've seen the Atom Shop of Fallout 76, the 'free' content is all pride stuff with different colored pride flags to represent every single gender identity.

The fact that Fallout 76 didn't get popularized enough allowed it to fly under the radar and promote weirder things.

One should take a look at Bethesda's board of directors maybe, to understand the nature of why they take a stance at that narrative...?

Or maybe it's because Microsoft owns them, that it becomes a part of their stance?

I doubt it though, you still have quest blockers happening because these flags happen to overlap each other due to you doing one quest over another, and you end up doing a new quest which reuses the same character... Like Tahir from The Wells after you cleared nearly the end of UC security questline, but then take the House of Enlightenment quest alongside it... And it breaks the questline since you end up 'arresting' Tahir. Poof vanished for good and can't be finished.

There was one quest, where I felt all the text options were equally obnoxious, so I decided to kill the guy, even though that didn't look like it was an option. So I killed him, but as OP says, he didn't die, he just fell to the floor injured. Interestingly, I was still able to loot him to get the object I needed from him. Then I just needed to get rid of my criminal record (and deal with the fact that all of Neon turned 'red')
Given all that, it didn't really make sense that I couldn't kill him.

boring that characters have immortality at all. It would take less than 1h to write a code that replace old leader or any important npc with a random new looking npc with the same ideas and keep the game functional, but allow a room for realism. Lack of creativity.

Devs only made shop items regenerate after 24h. Similar could be done to key characters with look modification.

You mean Administrator Bayu? LOL, because he's the figurehead of Neon entirely.

It only takes a single mod to undo NPC essential, there is a cvar that removes it from them, so you just simply need a script that selects every single NPC in existence and constantly undo any essential status on them...

There is a cvar that is able to search up the references of NPCs, so it shouldn't be hard to cross reference all NPC that has essential enabled.

Inb4 Bethesda removes the cvar command. Or Nexusmod bans the 'remove essential' mods.
