The ship design is not poor. It is actually ingenious. It reminds me of Freelancer and Privateer.
The controls are the same as Freelancer
The leveling is based on perks which is the same exact type of system used in all Bethesda games to date.
Space combat is not bad. It is not Elite Dangerous or anything but it is better than NMS space combat. After playing Elite Dangerous I don't think I could ever find a better version of space combat than it has. Top notch.
Heres a tip join the UC Vanguard, no seriously just do the quest to unlock the ship parts.
combat is fine, switch out your current weapons for particle beans and upgrade your shields. Also bring barret and vasco as crew.
Boost when missile locked and you should be able to chew through all the enemy ships painlessly. 2 or 3 enemies 10 levels higher than you is normal balance for this game.
If you want space combat, play X4: Foundations, it is a great single player space combat/economic/empire building game.
the ship combat is quite easy. its the standard carrot stick with articulated weapons that freelancer and privateer started 20 or so years ago.
everspace 2 is a very close modern equivalent and is a good game.
for now look into upgrading your ship components, make sure your energy allocations are correct, and maybe add the ship module mods that remove the limits on ship weapons shields and reactors.
there are certainly times when you will not be able to beat the amount of enemies you might run into in this case ensure your grav drive is powered as much as possible and jump away.
as to poor ship design. that mostly comes from where doors and ladders are located. i could certainly fix some design issues if i could just put them where i want them.
X4: Foundations
Star Wars Squadrons
Freelancer
Tachyon the Fringe
Privateer
Tie Fighter
X-Wing
If you find yourself up against unwinnable odds, maybe it would be better to cut your losses and flee.
No objection to your contentions, these are just my thoughts. Not everyone wants to feel like an anime-tiered BAMF that can almost effortlessly defeat their foes.
I have not played either of those, but the fact that you cannot rotate hab blocks or control how habs connect internally is pretty poor design. Also, the fact that you can't take parts off ONE ship you own and move them to a DIFFERENT ship you own makes no sense.
The fact that I can't save layouts either just sucks. For a game like this, that kind of functionality tends to be expected.
Simulation type combat is different.
A question of preferences and "what do you fancy today?" , there isn't one "superior" to the other......
The ship building system makes it LITERALLY TRIVIAL to build a nearly-invincible ship that will take entire fleets apart in a matter of seconds. It is all about knowing how to leverage it.
It's impossible to build a ship combat system that both challenges the player who does this, and remains manageable for the player who doesn't. You have to choose which group gets to be angry at you.
as an elite dangerous vet, lol
easy if you got some basic perks in ship combat.
