Weapon/Gear Skins?
Are there any actually in the game?

To be clear, I’m talking about when you modify a weapon or gear item. The last option on the list of mods relates to “skin” and is usually set to “Default Skin”.

The only time I’ve had any item show me other options was for the Constellation helmet, suit, and boost pack which had a “Constellation Skin” that made much of the white parts of the set a silvery/metallic color.

So are there any other skins for weapons and gear? Do you have to buy them from a specific vendor? Earn them somehow? Unlock them via a skill? Find them?

Or is this just a framework type function for modders and/or future updates/DLC?

I sorta remember FO4 having this too, but I can’t recall if it was a function added by a crafting mod I used or was a base game option.

Only one I've seen is the Cutter, which has an "Old Mars Skin". And I have the premium edition.

Guess they're either gonna sell skins at some point, or it's made for modders. Probably both.

fallout 4 got a official skin system for certain items in order to support creation club skins but modders addes such a framework prior to that as well.

in starfields case is not know if any other skins that the ones you got for the pre order bonus and the premium edition are in the game or not but the system most likely exists for creation club and for modders.

Only 'old mars skin' for cutter and 'constellation skin' for the boost pack which is just a shinier version of the default constellation pack.

There's also occasionally rarer weapons with pre-installed 'skin' but they're not transferable and usually unique to the weapon when it's generated. (IE Carbon black & Gold trim versions of Grendels)

Didn’t FO4 have some kinda system where once you obtained a legendary version of a weapon/gear piece that had a unique color/skin you could then apply that skin to any instance of that weapon/gear piece?

Or am I thinking about another game?

You prolly think about a mod, because Fallout 4 Unique weapons where like 95% of the time just normal skinned Weapons.

I won’t make another thread for this, just add it here:

What are the ranks for weapons/gear?

*name* > Calibrated *name* > Refined *name* > Advanced *name* > ?

Is that it and is that the correct order? (I think it is).

My suspicion is paving the way for paid Mod workshop.
