good keyboard layout for space fighting

so what in the dumbass literal ♥♥♥♥ are these idiots thinking making every button do 8 different things at the same ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ time?

E gets me up in fights all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ time
F is open when im fighting so i can't use O to heal my ship
R opens targeting AND boards so half the time i die because this pile of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ trash game lets ships still move while they are disabled and the cheating broke ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ship 89570457234578 levels above me just turns and spams me after a 5v1 fight and i die before the game lets me use the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ R key to activate the button to board a ship instead of re open targeting.

yeah I can't play any other FPS right now because I'm worried when I come back to the game all the 'muscle memory' for the whacked out default keybinds will be gone.

I haven't done too many space fights but I feel your pain with the hold e versus tap e button. Nothing like accidentally standing up in the middle of a battle. Like, 'uh I gotta go pee hold your fire.'

The keybindings can be a mess. You should be able to rebind them though, but that might take a while.

I have a particular issue with the R key in normal combat, since I love reloading. If I take out an enemy at close range, I sometimes find myself going through their inventory when I was just trying to reload.

I had one fight on a ship where were near where I had docked. I accidentally looked at the ladder while in this combat and found myself back in the cockpit because I tried to reload at the wrong time.

The E in ship fights can't be rebounded.

I feel ya. The space combat controls are atrocious and whom ever designed it needs a good slap. This is what happens when a moron tries to force game pad controls on to the keyboard and mouse.

My advice thusfar -

Q for scanner
E for targeting skill
F change target
A & D roll control

Apart from not having pitch and yaw, it should suffice for now.

100 hours in with at least hundreds of ship battles and have never once 'accidentally' held E for the ~3 seconds it takes to stand up.

The OP doesn't own the game they bairly know much about the game at all just look at there post history.

half the time i try to target a ship with E idk if theres another way but u have to tap e over and over and over sometimes like 30 times just to get the pile of ♥♥♥♥ to cycle 3 ships i sometimes hold E out of frustration on why the broke pile of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ game isn't listening to the keystrokes im giving it. like when im dying because im not allowed to target the ship im literally ramming and facing becuase my target is somehow ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stuck on the ship 5000m behind me is just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dumb and needs to be fixed.

long story short we need a better UI layout not made by an idiot and the construction set.
