Do you guys not have phones?
The sheer amount of messenger quests in this game is mind boggling, and the way we have to complete them does not make any sense
It's 24 century space age with FTL technology. Not medieval fantasy like TES or Post-Apocalypse like Fallout.
We should be able to use a phone or whatever high tech communicators in the 24th century whenever we want to "talk to XXX NPC"

Edit:
Just to be clear, I wasn't specifically talking about FTL transmission. I am talking about all form of radio transmission, like calling UC security from the lodge...

yeah I was just thinking how annoying it is for the crimson fleet questline that you have to constantly travel back and forth to talk to the same 2 NPCs after every mission. why does all communication in this game have to be face to face??

"NASA-punk" was a mistake. NASA isn't that cool.

I'm assuming you primarily mean long range communications. I haven't played a lot of the game yet, but short range communications doesn't seem to be the problem.

Long range communications would require massive power plants to function. The settled systems, while you have some concentration of worlds, also have a lot of far flung settlements.

Only military and government tier entities are going to be able to power long range communications.

Also, depending on where you are, you won't get any communications through. Despite what you see in the movies, space is a cold void that also has intense fields of radiation flying all over the place. Radiation is one of the primary obstacles of long distance space travel.

I guess the game would be boring if all you had to do was phone everybody to complete the missions. 🤣

One benefit Starfield Brought. When doing Board Missions, I never have to "Turn in" the quest. Once the Job is done I get paid.

It's mentioned a few times in game that communications aren't FTL.

Lack of FTL communications is one thing, but on the local level it gets weird.

But then you'd have deep fakes answering the call. lol.

Like seriously why not add cool electronic gadgets?

Seriously Bethesda? Really? :steamhappy:

Maybe an intercom style device on the starship?

There are actually really detailed cool looking intercoms that are used often in game already, and along with some kind of grav vehicle based on Starfields starship grav drives, have to expect some kind of phone has to be added. Its not hard to add even. It really isnt.

Moving audio and even a likeness of the characters to a phone, especially since the intercom is already in game, isnt tough at all.

According to visionaries 100 years ago, we here in the 21st Century were supposed to have flying cars, robot servants in every household and settlements on Mars after having defeated the Martians. It's safe to assume that I'm just as disappointed as you are. :steamfacepalm:

The quests are just the same old fantasy medieval borefests, except they have a frost-thin layer of sci-fi pasted on top of them. I started to dislike the game when faced with having to trudge across a boring bit of city to talk face to face to some NPC in a tavern... sorry, a Space Bar. As you say, why the hell are there no futuristic phones! The answer is simply to give the illusion of depth to a game that REALLY needs depth.

It's because bethesda is trash at realizing and creating new worlds. All they did was take the formula from elder scrolls or fallout and paint it differently. They rely heavily on assuming players will suspend disbelief to put up with their shortcomings.
