Vessel Auto-Turrets Just Not Working
Hello

I built a rather large vessel that I'm really quite proud of, but given it's size I decided to add on auto-turrets for one my three weapon types so as to drain enemy shields while I use the rest of my batteries to focus fire on a heavier vessel. However, they're just not working.

When I get into an engagement, only two turrets will ever function at any given time, and they will be woefully slow firing and inaccurate, even with two points into the Auto-Turret skill. And sometimes, even two won't work, and they'll all just stay dormant, even when fully powered. The weirdest part is when I put on my first turrets (The Scorch Laser Auto-Turrets) they worked fine, and just stopped after a few hours.

I have now tried just about every turret type you can acquire from New Atlantis and in every configuration (All broadside, all front facing, rear facing, mix, and my main being full 360* coverage), and I've tested them on a variety of engagement scenarios, and they really just do not seem to work at all anymore.

Really hopin' this gets fixed, as I designed my vessel to look akin to a Cruiser, and thus is designed with broadside armaments in mind from a visual standpoint.

I have thrown together a quick clip in a 1v1 vs a Crimson Fleet vessel. You can see the two starboard side cannons firing like normal, while the port side cannons do not even track the enemy, even when he's practically in touching distance.

(Also yes, I have used a ship builder extension mod. However, this issue was around prior to the addition of the mod, and in fact my main reason for acquiring the mod was to put more auto-turrets as I thought it may just be an issue with coverage. However, even in the vanilla save just before this clip, they still weren't working.)

think so too.
weirdly enough they work for me relatively well when i place them at the back on my ship as some kind of defence against ships behind me.

but shooting at enemys in front of me? nah

My understanding is that turrets have about a 180 degree firing arc and the direction they're facing in the ship designed seems to dictate where that arc is -- make sure that your turrets are facing in the direction you are trying to have them fire.

First, the auto turrets need at minimum 1 pip on the power in order to fire, second the turrets only fire in the direction you have set them to.

If you put the turret direction to the left it will only fire in that direction.

If you want to change the direction the turret fires then you should flip it to your desired direction.

As I stated, they are always fully powered. Secondly, I have them in an arrangement that gives them full 360* coverage of my vessel. There should always be at least one turret available at any given time. Yet alas, even when in docking distance of an enemy vessel with a clear line of fire, they simply do not.

I've tried them in a variety of different configurations with a variety of different firing angles, but alas, it still doesn't seem to work.

This guy here had the same issue but fixed it with a save and restart game https://www.reddit.com/r/Starfield/comments/16ddap1/turretsauto_turrets/

I have saved and restarted my game so many times since this first started that I can safely say it very much does not work for me.

Tried switching ships? As in switch to another ship -> go to space -> go back to landing zone -> switch to your turret ship.

Honestly i am totally grasping at straws right now because turrets have either an 180/90(Not really sure which one) degree firing arc and the enemy ship must be in the direction the turrets are facing.
You also need to attack the ship manually or more like the ship must be hostile to you for the turrets to detect it and fire.

I hope you find a fix dude.. this kinda sucks because you can make some interesting ships with turrets.

Yeah... I've tried that as well. Spent the better part of four hours trying to fix it, even using mods to remove things like the weapon and power restrictions, but alas, nothing has worked this far. Thanks for trying to help though!

I reckon I'll just have to have all my armaments be forward facing until a fix is implemented, or made by the mod community.

I have this same issue. I originally had auto laser turrets - and they actually worked. Mostly: they'd engage maybe in 80% of fights or something. I upgraded them to particle beam turrets and they haven't functioned ever since.

Save/reload doesn't help, nor does switching ship or removing them and placing them again. Changing their mount locations doesn't work, either - though they were in the same location as the weapons they were upgraded from anyway. They're just duds now.

Wondering if it's related to the fact that they were an upgrade rather than bought individually.

I had a ship using 100% turrets, and it was so great for the first hour that I spent 4 points on the Turret spec to make them even stronger. It was glorious until one day, a quest forced me to ship-swap. Even when I rehomed my ship, the turrets wouldn't fire again. I deleted them, saved design, bought them again, saved design, no matter; I have at least one ship that will never, ever fire turrets no matter how crewed up it is.

Turrets have a strange bug in the game; only thing I could conclude. I ditched turrets and run 8 auto particle beams now, and it's fine.

Just encountered this bug myself. I've ran turrets for probably 20 levels with no issues. Log on today and they wont fire at all. I was able to fix it once by modifying the ship a bit, but after an hour they stopped working again. Quite the bummer. It seems like it's a known issue from a quick Google search, so hopefully Bethesda releases a patch soon to fix it.
