New Nvidia drivers
Release notes said they included some performance boosts for Starfield. Anyone notice it running better?

I think so, New Atlantis still has some drops but they're not as "chunky" feeling as they were before. But the entire games feels just a little smoother. If I had to guess I'd say I am seeing +5-10FPS overall.

I flashed my BIOS last night and tried Rebar as well but thought it was a step back from just the new drivers in my case. So I disabled that this morning.

yes for me, 4 or 5 fps , in the worst spots, more in others

If there is a 4+ fps increase, why wouldn't Nvidia have posted the update with Starfield in the main description. For this game 5fps increase is 10% performance increase. They often release a whole update to increase performance in games for less then that.

I don't mean to say there isn't an improvement, I'm just surprised, if there is one of that caliber, that Nvidia didn't make a more clear/noticeable note of it.

EDIT: NVM, i'm just dumb, I guess I didn't read to the end of the main sentence. I guess I was just looking for a picture or something, because of my lack of literary expertise.

Laptop 3060 is running significantly cooler (10C) under normal gameplay now

Can't tell. GPU burst intro flames upon install. I'll keep you updated.

All they did was enable ReBAR by default. Takes like 2 min to do, zero effort from their side. If you have done so manually with the previous driver there will be no change in performance when moving to the new driver.

Starfield Performance Improvements
Today, NVIDIA is releasing a Resizable BAR profile for Starfield which increases performance on GeForce RTX 40 Series and GeForce RTX 30 Series desktop and laptop GPUs. In our testing scenario, GeForce RTX 40 Series desktop GPUs see on average a 5% increase in performance. The Starfield Resizable BAR update will be pushed via an Over-The-Air (OTA) update from NVIDIA and will be automatically applied for gamers running the latest Game Ready Driver (537.34) or the previous release (537.17).

I didnt notice any performance increase on a 2060 super.

Guess its up to bugthesda now lmao.

A bit but not much. I activated Above 4G Decoding (Use google) in Bios and noticed a small boost.

They already did, Read the driver description carefully.

This puts NVIDIA in an interesting spot. The game cannot use their magic DLSS, but they are getting a lot of heat so they are trying to make it work. How do you tweak FSR without infringing on trade secrets?

I think the optimizations we got in this latest driver were the best they could with FSR as a requirement. Silent Resizable Bar enable is genius.

I run a:
13700k
4070ti OC
SSDs
3840x2160 TV as monitor (60hz)

I can keep a SOLID 60FPS with v-sync on in crazy scenes with resolution scaling set to 80% and all else to ultra. Visually I cannot see the difference between this and no scaling at all, but I am probably fooling myself.

This is the most baffling part:

Nvidia - like AMD and Intel - have dedicated GPU driver and specialist senior former game developers working for them. Usually, these people get ALL involved in the mid to late-stage, before ANY 'big' studio is releasing their AAA games. They collaborate with the game devs to make sure, these new AAA games run well on release.

In this case, seeing Nvidia (and Intel) having to 'clean up' what they can (and they alone, can do only little) to make this run better on their cards ... instead working with them beforehand, to make Starfield a smoother experience for customers, is quite ... arrogant? Unprofessional?

There are some things Nvidia can do, to 'trick' the drivers to perform better. But, they ultimately cannot reverse bad code, that is deeply embedded in the game engine, like the now discovered "ExecuteIndirect" DX12 call nonsense and others.

I really hope, Bethesda - after bathing in their short term success - will take a good look at the game code and not let 'modders' do the work for them.

This game costs 80+ USD. Surely, we all deserve better?
