Yeah it just seems they have to be set as the active companion then its mostly a time thing, though doing stuff they like helps as well, but just sitting around with them active will also raise it.
Once you accept go and do the mission and make sure to free the person before talking to them, that way you are guaranteed an instant like from your companion thus increasing affinity.
I tried this with all the companions that i could and it worked on all of them(talking about Constellation companions), I do not know if it will work for you or others cause I only have my own experience to go.
Its really annoying you have to micromanage like this due to a heavy handed main story quest you can do nothing about. They should have made a way they both live I mean your char has weird space magic, maybe let them have a 1 time revival thing they can use on others as plot armor or something. Of course you can also have the choices of NOT using it too if you so desire. I really REALLY hate it when games force a main companion to leave in anyway.
any ideas why the command wouldn't work?
no matter which companion i click on (sarah quite likes me) i always get "GetActorValue: COM_Affinity >> 0.00". same with GetAV COM_AffinityLevel.
Make sure you are typing it correctly. I'ts just "GetAV COM_Affinity", nothing else. Also make sure the companion properly shows selected after you click on them. The lower middle of your hud should say something like "NPC_ 'SarahMorganREF" in the lower center of the screen when the companion is selected.
not sure what changed, before i wrote this post i didn't get the npc name just some refID clicking on a companion. now having read your answer, clicking on a companion is showing their name and it is working.
very weird, thanks for the helping vibes :)
