Solution to Slow Load and Lagging Dialogue
First off, all of my hardware/software is up to date and deemed acceptable for playing this game. I was experiencing 3-6 minute load times when opening doors, taking off into space, etc., and whenever I started a dialogue or if an NPC passing by on the sidewalk would say something, the game would freeze and take 1-3 minutes just to regain movement or start dialogue.

If you are experiencing this, try moving the game to your C drive. I know you aren't normally supposed to put anything there except essentials for your PC, but I really wanted to play this game smoothly and I saw someone online say that was a fix and it worked. I have over 2 TB space available both combo SSD and External and nothing worked except C drive. Just passing that on to anyone else having similar issues. I probably won't be back here to check any replies FYI.

I can't upvote this enough! I went from 2 minute lag when opening inventory, and seeing the NPC's talk and go through all their animations before the sound came in... to everything crisp and responsive. Starfield does not like anything but the C drive.

OMFG you are a life saver, I moved it off my installed SSD and into my C: drive and now I can actually play the game. Thank you so much my dude

Starfield is referencing your "My Games," folder as part of the game files.

I have that redirected to my game directory and saw significant improvements.

It's not tat it's the C drive, I have mine on my D drive; it's just that it hates normal HDDs. You need an SSD to play this; Bethesda said as much.

Yea my game was unplayable at first. I found out steam was installing everything to my HDD then I switched starfield install to my SDD which took a looooong time but game was smooth after that.
