Class C engines can be the most efficient, but have the downside of lower max speed. Class C reactors and drives are twice as large and the drives require more max power to get the same results, but have much more hull HP. Missiles have varying capacities to them. Auto weapons have great burst damage, but might suffer in sustained fire and initial strike damage. Turrets are useful, but less powerful than their static variants. Class C shields often have higher maximum powers, but lower recharge rates. Cargo capacity comes at a penalty to jump range and maneuverability. Shielded cargo weighs even more than standard cargo for the same space.
Lasers are only really good against shields and suffer vs hull. Ballistics are the opposite. Particle beams and missiles do equal damage to both, but are less efficient at either compared to their specialized versions.

This but upgraded. Throw a C reactor and turrets on the sides.
Upgrade that trash grav drive it has too. And replace the brig for battlestations
Just make use of your boost and manoeuvring thrusters.
Just add a couple of extra super nova engines, it already has 2 but you'll need design 1 to get more.
Then head over to Mars' Demios station for extra weapons
But if you know how to modify a ship, any ship can eventually share the same stats.
Currently I find the best combat ship would involve C class reactor, B class shield (1450 without perks) and A class engine (max speed 180 without perks), with cargo and mass limitation
Why? Pretty sure I'm just on whatever the default experience is, I've not changed it to my knowledge, so I assume that's what most people are on. Some enemies are already enormous bullet sponges, I can't imagine the game will be more fun if they get even higher HP bars to chew through.
