Could it be overheating?
Oh, and how old is your computer? What PSU wattage, CPU and GPU are you using?
In fact speaking of that, what else is generally running when you run this game? I recently got clued into a driver outdated(like....12 years outdated) when Deep Rock Galactic would crash 2 other proggrams along with it. So it's not off the table.
Weird. Do you mind if I ask what cooler and CPU are you using?
That's what I suspect too - I believe this is probably the #1 issue.
Fans spinning out of control due to overheating
you not capping your framerate, causing the above
its hard to tell
16gb ram
geforce rtx
on the floor
Sounds likely. You can use CPUID HWMonitor to monitor your computer's temperatures whilst playing the game -- that way you'll be able to pin down whether or not its the GPU or the CPU that's getting too hot. With your GPU it can often be just turning up the fans or undervolting the GPU.
And since it's on the floor, have you cleaned the fan filters lately (if its a positive pressure case) or cleaned its interior with dry compressed air? (I'm guilty of the former a few times - it was just hotter than usual though) If you can, don't place your system unit on the floor, as the floor collects and gathers the most dust --- had to have this conversation with my brother after he fried the GPU I gifted him one time.
