If you use the Alien DNA option at character creation it lowers the food health effect enough to make it basically negligible.

It restores mine to a certain extent. I have alien DNA, one of the character choices, so it doesn't provide me much health.
Deadoon 11/set./2023 às 20:44
Check your stats, you probably have so much health you don't notice the single digit boosts it gives. I'm only level 40 and have over 1300 hp.
MyKillK 11/set./2023 às 20:44
Oh it totally does. About 0.1% of your total.

so food worthless
Jaggid Edje 11/set./2023 às 21:22
It restores health, it's just such a low amount compared to how much health that you have that you won't see the bar move unless you eat a ton of it.

Pretty much, yes, it's useless other than the buffs it provides. And the buffs are also pretty pointless for most of the food.

You just need to cram it. Although to be fair who, ever, healed a broken bone by eating an apple and synth beef?

Yep it just take inventory space. Might be usefull in a survival mode in the future or a mod.
BionicDance 11/set./2023 às 21:28
I find that it does...you just have to eat a double-wide buttload of it.

Not all food is worthless, some foods give buffs, although alien DNA trait lowers the buff affect too.

The only food I buy/use are the ones with a 2% exp buff, but only the ones that last for 1 hour, but I took alien DNA with this character and now that buff is only 1% so I'm not even using that on this time.

my hubby keeps telling me to grab food, i keep pointing out i have alien dna... somehow he's not shocked, i think my secret is out... but anyhow, i haven't figured out the benefit of alien dna other than not grabbing everything i see and getting fat with empty calories... oh that's it, maybe alien dna is the ozempic of the future!
Lackadaisy 11/set./2023 às 22:04
I don't eat the food items. It's too arduous.
Dahak 21/set./2023 às 16:04
Food is really only useful for buffs. Some provide additional carry weight, O2 regen, max O2, xp boost, etc. The stuff down at the end of the cooking tree has the best buffs of course.

Edit: Oh, and there is a mod that lets you hold E to eat a thing. Its easier to notice the heath going up that way. There is also a mod that reduces health levels by reducing the per level gain. This gets really important if you go out beyond level 100 as the enemies get super spongy and guns stop getting any better long before that.

More and more, I find I've been playing this game...well...wrong.

I figured, "It's a Bethsda game. Play it like it's Fallout 4 in space!"
And boy, did I ever need to unlearn that!

I was collecting all of the crap, trinkets, and tchotchkes because I thought I'd have to break 'em down to get materials. And I was hoarding so much food, too.
But Med Packs are just plain everywhere, not to mention Trauma Packs and Emergency Packs...I'm never wanting for heals.

Food seems...useless.
