Personally though, I prefer using pistols with reflex sight.
What "Type" of gun they are only matters insofar as achieving those objectives. So I could have multiples of the same type, or I could not have them, depending on what I've found recently.
But since I found a Regulator, I'm having trouble finding any other weapon that can top this tiny monster of a gun.
I'm considering using a MagShot as secondary, but I still have to test out if it deals as much burst damage as I'm expecting. Should be able to deal significant damage to larger wildlife.
Other than that, for non-lethal missions I use an Equalizer for long range (pretty obvious), and a Pacifier shotgun with the EM-Charge magazine for close range.
But yeah, I use the Regulator 90% of the time, but i have to buy ammo every chance i get.
For this play through, I specialized in pistols, because they fit the character. Plus, pistols seem like they're a reliable choice in any game, often they're good to great. I'm 3/4 perks into pistols, none in any others. I use pistols for 80% or more of combat.
So, I have my first 3 hotkeys various pistols - a regulator, a mag-shot and a razorback. My second 3 are various rifles with one being long range scope. My last 3 hotkeys are heavy weapons like shot gun and a 40mm bridger. The other 3 hotkeys are healing items.
