Weapon choices
I currently have one of every type of weapon hotkeyed and have done this in fallout as well. I generally use only one weapon unless I need to swap when I don't have time to reload. Do other people do this as well or do you carry one type of weapon but different ones for different scenarios?

I try and carry 4 different guns, one high damage close range, one medium damage long range, and then two others. I usually end up using whichever gun I have the most ammo for. In my case it's an Orion energy rifle with a scope on it.

Personally though, I prefer using pistols with reflex sight.
Diversity is king. But shotguns feel great in this game. 😊

I got 6 currently. 3 pistols (one silenced) of different ammo types, just cause I keep getting legendary pistols for some reason, and then shotgun, rifle and sniper rifle. The rest is mines and grenades.

I really enjoy the Rapidshot but haven't found any other good ones yet.

I keep a modified Eon and a modified automatic Grendel using the same ammo. And for sniping a lucky find I got when an already highly modified epic AA-99 dropped. Oh, and a cutter for mining. That keeps it to just 2 types of ammo and 4 weapons. Saves space for picking up enemy modified weapons, spacesuits, helmets, and resources.

Do the weapons keep scaling as you level? Has anyone found a cap on them yet?

My character has lasers maxed on the skill tree so I only carry 1 laser rifle and 1 laser pistol. I was carrying a bigger verity early game because of lack of ammo, but by level 5 I had plenty of 1.5KV and 3KV charge packs to drop down to 2 weapons. I would carry more but with a 145Lb carry limit I try to keep the equipment I carry with me to around 30Lbs so I have room for loot.

I do a mix of both. I try to always have a melee weapon and at least 2 guns each for short range and long range, 1 with high damage per shot and one with high rof. Preferably with suppressors on the High-damage-per-shot guns.

What "Type" of gun they are only matters insofar as achieving those objectives. So I could have multiples of the same type, or I could not have them, depending on what I've found recently.

I have no idea why I carry 8 different weapons because I only use 2 and I am very disappointed that there is really not much choice or difference between teirs. Sure higher tier has a bit more damage but I would prefer to have random stats so I might be excited when I get a good drop.
I found an explosive (rarity modifier) Mealstrom early on. That thing on semi did TONS of damage when the explosions triggered.
But since I found a Regulator, I'm having trouble finding any other weapon that can top this tiny monster of a gun.

I'm considering using a MagShot as secondary, but I still have to test out if it deals as much burst damage as I'm expecting. Should be able to deal significant damage to larger wildlife.

Other than that, for non-lethal missions I use an Equalizer for long range (pretty obvious), and a Pacifier shotgun with the EM-Charge magazine for close range.

But yeah, I use the Regulator 90% of the time, but i have to buy ammo every chance i get.

I guess I've been pretty lucky with weapons then. I got a legendary titanium magshot with instigator and rapid fire and a legendary tesla calibrated maelstrom with extended mag perk and staggering. both weapons are great and I have no issues with them but i some times feel crazy for carrying around so many weapons when i dont use them all that often.

For this play through, I specialized in pistols, because they fit the character. Plus, pistols seem like they're a reliable choice in any game, often they're good to great. I'm 3/4 perks into pistols, none in any others. I use pistols for 80% or more of combat.

So, I have my first 3 hotkeys various pistols - a regulator, a mag-shot and a razorback. My second 3 are various rifles with one being long range scope. My last 3 hotkeys are heavy weapons like shot gun and a 40mm bridger. The other 3 hotkeys are healing items.
