I was able once to steal a quest ship, but it auto switched to home and bugged out.
i just want to steal ♥♥♥♥ from pirates i dont care how much i get for it i just want them all dead
It feels like this is supposed to be some sort of random event trigger that isn't really working out as expected.
some do say inaccessible or won't let you sit in the cockpit seat but a lot of them you can steal just fine.
To this moment, Any time I go back to my base on that planet the rest of the crew of that ship still stands around doing nothing, The ship is still there and the captain is still animal food.
As to pirate/ecliptic ships landing you have to kill all the ground crew before the hatch will become accessible. Successfully hiding till combat ends will work too but if you're doing this take the last few guys out from the ramp because the ships have a bad habit of taking off when you kill everybody. As mentioned in another response here though there's next to no point to doing this. The cost of registration vs what you actually get for selling the ships is next to nothing.
